Blacksummernight was supposed to be released in 2005!!! But due to the homosexual theme, the label thought it might jeopardise his female fan base, therefore we have the re-worked trilogy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Maxwell threw both of his hands on the air and walked out on the whole project.

Those rumors have been flying around for awhile. How do you know there's a homosexual theme to it? So does Maxwell claim to be gay, bi, or straight?

I went on Wikipedia and didn't see either bit of info on there (it claimed he started recording in 2007)

I don't know whether he's gay, bi or straight. But there was this article that was posted in Okayplayer in 2005 that illustrated the whole thing, and that the A&Rs in Columbia were practically having a fit because of the album's content and how supposedly it may end his career.

I've been trying to find that article myself.

I've heard of this rumor ... Im pretty sure that's why the label delay the release that of the first episode.

Silly. If they really wanted to cash on it, now would be the time when the first disc is still fresh in people's memories.

I remembered that article myself. I hear that's why he took the break when he did because he and the label were having disagreements over the material. We knew he was always working but he could never get the label to release it because they were afraid he would "lose" his audience.

I say late 2010 or early 2011. Either way we'll at least have the 1st single by November.

Smart move. The music business is not like it once was when an artist could release a full length album every year or so and be confident that the public will buy it. Now, you have to put time in between albums to make the public miss you. Then, they will buy the album no matter how crappy it is (i.e., Nippy & Sade). I would love for certain artists to release a new project every year. But, because American audiences are so fickle, churning out albums too close to each other could spell career suicide. Just ask Mimi.

I dont know about that. Maxwell received a warm welcome back reception after his big break, but Id say that's not the norm and unlikely to repeat if he falls off the radar again. He's not going to get a ticker tape parade just for putting out an album, simply because he takes forever to do so. The novelty of it will have worn off and he's pushing 40...the industry and the public are fickle. I just want him to regularly put out good music. No drama, no build up let down, rumors, mysterious interviews, gimmicks, or any of that. Just good work, regularly released.

I'd say the reception was more than warm when he came back....what I would call a warm reception would be when Sade came back after yet another 10 years.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Maxwell Preps Second Summers' Night Album

July 1, 2010

The wait for Maxwell's second disc from his celebrated "Black summers' night' trilogy could be over sooner than previously thought.

According to Maxwell, the effort is already being mixed with the first single headed for radio.

"Mixing the second of these three in the next two months," Maxwell wrote referencing the album on Twitter this week. "The first song shld (should) be w/ you come fall but expect (B) SUMMERS' (N) this WINTER."

News of Maxwell's follow up to the "Pretty Wings" and "Bad Habits" featured "Blacksummers'night" follows the unexpected cancellation of the second leg of his North American tour, which was due to run through late Summer. He is however, expected to make up those dates at a later time.

As previously reported, Maxwell picked up two Grammy Awards in February, both stemming from "Blacksummers'night".

I'm happy with this news, even if it's just the 1st single this Fall. I would love the album out by December, but it may not come until February.

Disagree. The first installment was ready, he didn't have to master part 2 or 3 that early.
