The lead sounded similar to Chaka Khan. I never knew there was a video for this. This was way before the video revolution.

She's from the "Chaka" school.

Toni recorded alot of singles in the early 80s, and she's still a very much in demand session vocalist,,,but I'm not sure if she recorded a solo project.

I never knew a video existed for the song until I saw it on youtube a few years ago. As huge as this song was and still is, I don't know why the video was never widely played on any of the video shows.

Tonni recorded another version of this song with Bob Baldwin a few years back where she sounds even more like Chaka. And, no, Tonni has never recorded a full length album.

Reel

I used to work with dude in the yellow stripped shirt, and though he always told me to look for him in the video, and talking in the beginning of the song; he never mentioned that he played guitar - which makes me wonder if that is really him playing. He also taught karate. Cool cat.

We are all from the same area in and around Jamaica Queens. I'm younger than those cats though, and I never got a chance to meet Tom Brown, Toni Smith or the rest of the gang. They did show the video back in the day but like on UHF channels (ahh remember that), or very late at night on one of the local VHF channels.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Yes. Mariah butchered that song! It would have been so much better if she would have dropped this Mystikal person and stuck closer to the original. Early on, Mariah had the pipes to pull this song off but when she finally got around to recording it, so much of her vocal power had already gone.

It may be because the video is so horrid. I'm kind of glad I never saw it until now. My imagination was better. The is the worse video I ever seen...

I liked it just without the rap. Her power was still there in 2001 but not as much.

You must be really young. If you grew up in the 80's, you had to have seen video far worse than this.lol This video is from 1980. At that time, artists, especially black acts who were not crossover artists, were not given the $$$ to produce quality videos. So, if they wanted a visual to go along with their song, these are the types of low budget videos they had to go with.
