I love her first two albums and I had high hopes that haven't been fulfilled. Her last two efforts were a big let down for me.
I'm the opposite. I was never that into her until this last song, "Unthinkable" (I'm Ready). I love love love that song. I want to listen to more.
me too....but when I first heard it I thought Mariah more than Alicia....but it's a great song for her voice and she's not screaming and whatnot on it. But the rest of her album so far left me cold...
That's just it...to me she doesn't sound like herself anymore...I also think that too many accolades too soon tends to ruin some artists.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Yes! Anita Baker! I had all of her albums when I was in college, then I had a hard time finding my way back to her when she returned. I bought her Christmas album last year, and was left feeling like
And Sade. Another one I played hard in college, and then "Love Deluxe" came out. I sat for a long time contemplating the last release- had it in my Amazon basket and everything. Couldn't do it.
I was never that heavily into Sly, except for that brief period when my friends and I thought he was cool. THAT didn't last- for me anyway.
Credibility.....
Okay, wait.
Isn't this a thread about artists we used to like but don't anymore? Asked, and I answered.
So how is this reply fair because I named a few artists?
People named people I didn't agree with, but I didn't post a big-ass sign dissing them.
I've been listening to music since the 70s: Some things I still like, some I no longer like, some I started to like along the way...

Just teasing ya.
Oh.
My feelings were hurt for a sec.
"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."
A lot of the artists mentioned seem to be has beens, or people who have been absent from the charts for a while, but I no longer care much about Macy Gray or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stadium arcadium was one big yawn for me. Macy Gray lasted one album, the Id was barely listenable.
In reality, I listen to very little music made after 1989, maybe I am getting old as nearly every song on my Ipod and computer is from the 1980s or even the 1970s. The only modern acts I have followed are Kanye West and Lady Gaga, and in reality one uses a lot of samples from the 70s and 80s in his music, the other has a 80s electropop sound.

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time
After MJ's passing you kind of have to say the whole music industry. It's not the same without him.
And those Artists who tried to compete with him and say he wasn't really any competiton - let's see how well they do now.
"The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page
Well, it still isn't quite the same without him regardless of your opinions on Invincible.

I know. When I heard it I didn't know who it was. Maybe that's why I like it.

Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart is one of her best songs, ain't it? I've always considered her a singles artist anyway, didn't think she made consistent albums.

That one was ok, but I didn't like it nearly as much as Unthinkable. You are right, though. She is a "singles" artist.

The Rising and The Seeger Sessions were some of his best work.
To be at this point in his career and write another classic.
Well, I lost interest after The Rising I didn't like the whole neo-classic country/folk era of D&D and TSSessions (not the kind of sound that I was looking for), and man, Magic and WOAD were AFWUL
I'm sure we've all fallen out of love with some of our favourite artists/bands over the years.
I was a huge Janet fan all through the 90s, and even stuck with her through AFY and DJ, but by the time she released 20YO it was quite clear she was only heading in one direction (down the pan).
I'm not even sure if I would bother buying her next album.
Another artist who I used to love is Kylie. She was so cool and sophisticated in the 90s, I loved Confide In Me, Where The Wild Roses Grow, Impossible Princess etc and then she came out with Spinning Around and it was just a huge sellout.
Erykah Badu is the first person who popped in my mind.
Must have rubbed off onto me because I love Badu more than ever these days.
Me too Cinnie. When she first came out, I was in highschool and took her for granted now I appreciate her more than ever.
The older I get the more I appreciate her music. Same with Lauryn Hill.
