Alicia Keys

I love her first two albums and I had high hopes that haven't been fulfilled. Her last two efforts were a big let down for me.

I'm the opposite. I was never that into her until this last song, "Unthinkable" (I'm Ready). I love love love that song. I want to listen to more.

Morrissey- After re-listening and re-listening. i came to the conclusion that i rather like the smiths better. morrissey sounds the same after play after play.

smashing pumpkins- i was crazy for this band. i knew and still know the names of my favorite demos songs. my whole room was a temple to this band. after high school and when also billy reformed the band i realized that james iha and d'arcy were the coolest members and so i'll follow their lead and forget about the pumpkins.

yeah that is the only two i can give up

and Deftones- I still think Chino Moreno's has the best voice in the Nu-Metal/Alt Metal genre. its just after a while, my taste for them sort of waned.

I'm sure we've all fallen out of love with some of our favourite artists/bands over the years.

I was a huge Janet fan all through the 90s, and even stuck with her through AFY and DJ, but by the time she released 20YO it was quite clear she was only heading in one direction (down the pan).

I'm not even sure if I would bother buying her next album.

Another artist who I used to love is Kylie. She was so cool and sophisticated in the 90s, I loved Confide In Me, Where The Wild Roses Grow, Impossible Princess etc and then she came out with Spinning Around and it was just a huge sellout.

Erykah Badu is the first person who popped in my mind.

Must have rubbed off onto me because I love Badu more than ever these days.

Me too Cinnie. When she first came out, I was in highschool and took her for granted now I appreciate her more than ever.

Madonna springs to mind. bought all albums til I'm Breathless (which I still liked a lot) but after that just an occasional song I could bear here and there... but I didn't care to buy anything from her ever since

same with Queen until Hot Space

I still got all new George Michael albums, but it's nowhere the same as it was, in fact I like the two Wham! albums best

there are other artists I'm sure, have to think about it

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Maybe I'm wrong about this because I haven't bought an album since Stillmatic, but...

Nastradamus and Stillmatic in a row made me feel like not checking for him anymore.

SMH...

I guess you dont like Distant Relatives? And what was wrong with Stillmatic?

For me, Id say: R. Kelly, Mary J, Busta Rhymes (didnt "Love" him but he was one of my favs), Janet.

sadly, i have to agree with the people who said tori amos.

her music up to and including "to venus and back" was so

good, so thought provoking and otherworldly.

since then it's all become very 'normal'. she sounds just

like every other girl with a band to me now. even those

incredible lyrics have got lost in the transition.

also hate the way she stretches her words at the end of

her lines these days. it's all just too much and it never

ends up grabbing me like any of her older stuff.

Christina Aguilera (What a let down!)

Zeppelin and Hendrix, I used to LOVE classic Rock. Now it all sounds like garbage to me.

Green day I am just quite embarrassed for ever buying American Idiot.

Mariah Carey would be top of the list. Im a fan and always buy the album day one, but it gets retired to the "stack" after one or two listens.

Janet Jackson same exact reason

Kylie Minogue, still like her but i used to be so into her that i was buying the imports from everywhere and singles part 1 and 2 etc.... but though i still like her, there is something not there anymore.

Duran Duran. I think it was the last album that just put me off, maybe the constant changes in the band also, but they need a strong album and focus again, i dont care if it sells or catches "mainstream" that is useless, but they need a top notch album. I mean i didnt even buy the two reissues and i would have bought them day one years ago.

  • Yes! Anita Baker! I had all of her albums when I was in college, then I had a hard time finding my way back to her when she returned. I bought her Christmas album last year, and was left feeling like confused

  • And Sade. Another one I played hard in college, and then "Love Deluxe" came out. disbelief I sat for a long time contemplating the last release- had it in my Amazon basket and everything. Couldn't do it. sigh

  • I was never that heavily into Sly, except for that brief period when my friends and I thought he was cool. THAT didn't last- for me anyway. lol

Pretty much safe to say that I could care less about music in general basically, people that used to create albums are now on the single bandwagon too. I think the digital/download age makes a difference as I can get those singles easily and listen to albums before buying them (saves on that disappointment factor).

I remember when I was young, some albums I'd wake up all early and run down to the Wiz like where's the vinyl, where's the cassette, it used to be exciting when artists would drop and album, and now it;s just "meh" disbelief

me too....but when I first heard it I thought Mariah more than Alicia....but it's a great song for her voice and she's not screaming and whatnot on it. But the rest of her album so far left me cold...disbelief

I used to be fanatical about Mariah, but since Butterfly I couldn´t care less.

I used to really like Janet and Whitney, since Janet and Bodyguard, I don´t.

Never been a huge fan of Sade as a child, but I adore her early stuff up to Love Deluxe. I hardly listen to her last two records.

And Prince. Been really into his music during 90´s when I discovered him for myself, listening to all his music, but since then, all his latest releases were more or less disapointing.

And that´s about it.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Okay, wait.

Isn't this a thread about artists we used to like but don't anymore? Asked, and I answered.

So how is this reply fair because I named a few artists?

People named people I didn't agree with, but I didn't post a big-ass sign dissing them.

I've been listening to music since the 70s: Some things I still like, some I no longer like, some I started to like along the way...

But don´t you feel that the inspiration seems to have left everyone in the past ten years? It feels dull, emotionless in the music world.
