What exactly is "guitar shredding"?

I hear this term a lot, I looked it up on wikipedia and the definition seemed a bit hazy.

Is it just really fast rock-based guitar soloing, with hammer-ons and pull-offs and tapping etc??

Can anybody give me an example in a song?
