I was obsessed with them from 1999 - 2002. I think for a whole year I always listened to one of their albums on the way to school in the morning, and often on the way home.

Yeah, the cringey rap I don't recall being there back in the day sounds amatuer, chorus still great though.

lol I thought the rap and chorus sound great and haven't aged at all but the verses make me cringe a little now.

My fave TLC track was "This is How It Works".
That said, I don't know if I can forgive 'em for "Scrubs" (what an empowering message that song had: 'Girls, don't give the time of day to dudes with no money.' ).

Khandi(Xcape's ex-member) is guilty of that chickenhead song,,,and comes to think of it, ALL of the songs she wrote for other artists and herself consist of the same "you have to pay my lazy ass through life" theme.
Bills, Bills, Bills, ring the bell? YEP, she's guilty of that too.

That's my favourite TLC song as well, 'Give it to me while it's hot' was the last song of theirs that I really liked. I think if Left Eye was around to write a proper rap for that it would have been even better :( I always thought No Scrubs was meant to be very tongue-in-cheek...were they serious?

Bills, Bills, Bills isn't really a male bashing record when you really think about it. The song was saying that IF you gonna drive her car all day, put gas in the tank .. If you gonna max out her credit card, pay the bill .. if you gonna use her cell phone all day, pay the monthly.

What about "Girl Talk"? I liked that one. I know it was released after her death, but was Lisa on it?
I heard/saw nothing tongue-in-cheek in their performances of it.

Isn't that the one that goes, 'You pay my bills / You pay my telephone bills / You pay my automobills, etc., etc.'? If so, it didn't really sound like it was celebrating the male spirit, to me.

LOL. Here's how I saw it
(Some of the lyrics)
-From first verse- "and now you ask to use my car. you drive it all day and don't fill up the tank" -- imo, it's saying what i stated ; if you gonna drive her car all day, the LEAST you can do is fill the tank up
-From second verse- "now you've been maxing out my card. give me bad credit, buying gifts with my own ends. haven't paid the first bill, but you steady heading to the mall, going on shopping sprees, perpetrating to your friends that you be ballin" -- again, if you gonna MAX OUT HER CREDIT CARD, the LEAST you can do is pay the bill
-From second verse- "and then you use my cell phone. callin who ever that you think at home, and when the bill comes, all of a sudden you be acting dumb. don't know where none of these calls come from when your mamma's numbers here more than once" -- once again, if you're gonna run up the girls cell phone bill the LEAST you can do is...yepp...PAY THE BILL
So many people were so stuck on the hook of the song and mostly Kelly's part that they ignored the real meaning behind the song.

I liked Girl Talk too but it's not my favourite from that album, and yep Lisa did rap on it . I think it was one of the last ones she did for TLC; she raps in Give it To Me While It's Hot too but that was just sampled from her Supernova album and lyrically doesn't fit with the song.
Maybe it was just hopeful thinking on my part because if it was serious then it was a pretty stupid song with a cool video lol
