Why? Christian Bale did the same thing for his 2004 film "The Machinist." He starved himself for months: Some actors are willing to voluntarily become emaciated for roles. I wouldn't though. No way. They may return to their normal weight, but their faces never quite look the same after losing that much weight. Kinda sad, especially when the actor doesn't receive any awards for their sacrifice. 50 Cent lost a lot of weight for his upcoming movie "Things Fall Apart". In the movie 50 Cent plays a football player diagnosed with cancer. He dropped from 214 pounds to an astonishing 160 with a liquid diet and three-hour-a-day treadmill walks for nine weeks. "I was starving." Now he's back on tour and says, "I've been eating. I'll be back in shape in no time!" http://www.thisis50.com/p...g-slimdown D.M.X.! ARF!

Rapid weight loss, and subsequent gain, can increase your risk of a heart attack. Talk about dying for your art.

Holy crap! I mean, if he can act at all, you just give him the Oscar now! I know that sounds dumb, but that is a huge commitment to your craft. It almost doesn't seem like that much weight. He must be really tall!

I always wondered if that's what really did Luther in (rather than just staying a little heavy, which might have been bad, but the up and down really can't be good). I worry about Janet in that way, too.

It is 50.
As stated above it's for a film role. He also had some tattoos removed, so I guess he's pretty serious about it. I respect his passion.

I'd never do all that for a role. If my acting skills can't pull it off, then don't give me the part. [Edited 5/27/10 8:46am] Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

Well since he's producing the movie and co-wrote the screenplay about his friend, I don't think that's gon happen.

Actors do this shit all the time, what's the big deal? De Niro has done it several times (Raging Bull, The Untouchables, Cape Fear). That's one of best ways to get an Oscar. Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Cast Away), dude in the pianist, Vanessa Redgrave have all done this for a role [Edited 5/27/10 9:25am]

[Edited 5/27/10 8:46am] Ain't no amount of acting gon' replicate someone suffering from cancer, AIDS, or in a concentration camp. That can only be done through a drastic physical transformation. Especially if, in 50s case, they are going to show the character as a healthy football player and then show him after getting cancer. [Edited 5/27/10 9:06am]

Not according to Bobby who said he loves 50 like a son. And like it or not, 50 was in a movie with BOTH Robert and Al Pacino so it shows me he's serious about developing as an actor. And they both had nothing but positive comments about working with him. But, I'm talking about the weight loss since you said it seems over the top. I'm just saying it's pretty typical for actors playing certain roles.

People can lose massive amounts of weight healthily as long as they don't go up and down all the time. Just watch the Biggest Loser. They have people on there losing 30 pounds in ONE week. Of all the obese, unhealthy people on there doing strenuous excercise 8 hours a day not a single one has had a heartattack or stroke. So, it's not that big of a deal, especially if you were already healthy like 50. [Edited 5/27/10 9:16am]
