This nonsense about Lady Gaga being successful ONLY for her wardrobe, looks and videos is not only ridiculous, its also wrong. Her outrageousness is only part of her success story. The main reason for her success is her excellent songwriting, (she's put out some of the catchiest and best songs out there now) performing, singing, and bringing back the art of showmanship. And that's all I'm gonna say on that. Carry on.

First of all, there's nothing brilliant about Gaga's songwriting and anyone that denies her outrageous outfits and eccentric behavior playing a role in her success is just in denial.

Like said, "Poker Face" was a huge global smash even before most people knew what she looked like or what her name even was. The same type of kooky outfit dance acts have been around for ages in Europe. When I first saw that video I thought she had to be German. It might be a different deal altogether now that she's found success in the States later on - it seems to have happened quite rapidly - but in the beginning it was all about her her singles, "Poker Face" in particular.

That song was everywhere. So yes, it has everything to do with her songwriting. I don't myself even particularly like it and haven't even bothered to listen to her record throughout, but she became a phenomenon due to people clicking with her music. The success with the American audiences seems to operate on rather different grounds, as always.

Gaga's style has contributed to her success, just as it has for Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson and countless other artists.

But if she wasn't putting out catchy songs that people enjoy, she could dress up in whatever she wants and still nobody would notice. It takes more than goofy clothing or outrageous style to make the kind of splash Gaga has made.

She's taken elements of 80s pop, dance, european electronica and merged them into a nifty package with terrific success. Kudos to her.

Just To Give Yal A Sample...

1. Hip Hop Soul diva Mary J Blige has vowed to NEVER record a song with pop diva Christina Aguleria because she feels that she is "rude". Recalling their first meeting Mary said that upon greeting each other Xtina extended her hand to Mary as though she wanted her to kiss it which was taken as an extreme insult by Blige.

Mary was very candid about her dislike for Christina during a filming of a documentary for British TV even saying that the 'Dirrty' singer was not going to last in the business because she doesn't know how to treat people and that Britney will be the one to go the farthest. After having had time to consider the impact of her statements, Mary tried to have her comments on Xtina taken out of the documentary but they were included regardless.

2. Apparently there's some bad blood between multi-octave divas Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. According to Access Hollywood, the war of words started when Aguilera said that Carey was "never cool to me" in the June issue of GQ.

"One time, we were at a party and I think she got really drunk, and she had just really derogatory things to say to me," Aguilera told the magazine. "But it was at that time that she had that breakdown, so she might have been very medicated."

(In 2001, Carey was hospitalized for exhaustion after several bizarre public appearances, including a near-striptease on MTV's TRL.)

In response to Aguilera's comments, Carey told Access Hollywood, "I had hoped that Christina was in a better place now than the last time I saw her, when she showed up uninvited at one of my parties and displayed questionable behavior.

"It is sad yet predictable that she would use my name at this time to reinvent past incidents for her promotional gain," Carey added. "It is in my heart to forgive and I will keep her in my prayers."

Aguilera, whose new album, Back to Basics, is due Aug. 15, seems ready for a truce. "I do not want any bad energy with anyone," she told Access when contacted for comment. "My intentions were not to upset Mariah with any statements that were published or taken out of context. I have all the respect in the world for her."

3. Scans of Christina Aguilera’s article in Blender magazine have been posted. In the piece, Aguilera is critical of pop peers Destiny’s Child star Beyonce Knowles and Britney Spears. “Look at people like Beyonce or Britney,” Aguilera said. “They’re desperate to come across as sweet, good little girls, but then you see them in photo shoots that are extremely sexual—tight little booty shorts, and not much else. So why do they try to be virginal in interviews?” Aguilera then held her finger to her mouth, Lolita-like, and affects a note-perfect Spears impersonation. “‘Oh, gosh, I haven’t kissed a boy in I don’t know how long!’

4. Don't count Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, who started their careers together in "The Mickey Mouse Club" and both bussed Madonna at September's MTV Video Music Awards, as kissin' kin.

In the December issue of Blender magazine, Aguilera, 23, says of Spears: "She seemed very distant, even during rehearsals.... She seems to me like a lost little girl, someone who desperately needs guidance."

Spears, 22, hasn't taken Aguilera's comments lightly. As reported by the Associated Press, the pop princess recalls in the magazine's January issue a story about seeing former friend Aguilera for the first time in two years. "She comes up to me in a club in front of all these people and tries to put her tongue down my throat!," says Spears.

"I say, 'It's good to see you,' and she goes, 'Well, you're not being real with me.' I was like, 'Well, Christina, what's your definition of real? Going up to girls and kissing them after you haven't seen them for two years?'

5. In 2008, Aguilera addressed the comparisons, revealing that she didn't even know Lady Gaga. "You know, that's funny that you mention that. This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago," she told the L.A. Times in November 2008. "I'm not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don't know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn't sure. I really don't spend any time on the Internet, so I guess I live a little under a rock in that respect."

6. Viewers had something to take away with them at the 2003 European Music Awards as well. The running interplay between longtime rivals Kelly Osbourne and Aguilera was fierce and catty. During the pre-show, Aguilera refused to walk the red carpet if Osbourne — a guest VJ for the event — was present. Kelly responded by calling Aguilera's music "crap" and saying she was a "cow."

Later, a skit was aired of Aguilera throwing darts at a board decorated with a picture of Osbourne. This irked the Ozzy offspring, who voiced her disapproval when she came onstage to present an award. "If Christina Aguilera has to resort to throwing darts at my head after everything she's achieved and everything she's done, then she's a really sad, sorry person," Kelly said. "And I take it as a complete compliment."

"Honey, if you can dish it out, you've got to learn how to take it back," Aguilera later retorted with a voice of mock sympathy.

Later in the year,Aguilera continued the snit with Osbourne in the new edition of Q magazine. “She must have a crush on me because every five minutes she’s saying something about me,” she says. “I did see her at a club and said, ‘Look, what is your problem?’ And she had nothing to say. If you’re going to talk sh** about me, do it to my face, because if you don’t back it up you’re just talking out of your ass.”

* In conclusion, Christina's got a smart ass mouth. It's widely known that most of her peers can't stand her. Not over jealousy of her talent, not over her vocals, it's because she has a nasty attitude and likes to start shit with people.

So what's your point again?

I wrote that I didn't even really like it myself - so I would hardly consider it myself "brilliant" either - but obviously millions of people around the world thought it was brilliant. At least in the initial stage her success had everything to do with her music. Insisting that it is based on her wardrobe is simply a false claim.

Hate to be the one who breaks it to you, but take away David Bowie's flamboyant persona and you'll still end up with a body of work that will be marvled at & studied decades from now. When the smoke clears, substance over style is STILL a major factor in his craft. Lets not walk down that route.

As for Lady Sir Nose, I've already had my say about her and only time will tell whether she's a fraud or a sincere talent.

Bowie was largely seen as a gimmick and an image-based artist all the way up to the release of "Station to Station" or "Low". Of course, we know now in retrospect that his material was top-notch, but many lumped him together with the rest of the glam acts. As good as the material on e.g. "Hunky Dory" was, he didn't start to get noticed until the image change into Ziggy Stardust. As far as I know, "Hunky Dory" initially sold about 10,000 records.

So that's the irony, basically.

"Pokerface" was a major hit in the radio on a global scale even before most people even knew what she looked like. It's another thing if you like that song, but its success was not based on her looks. In fact, her image was quite different in the beginning. Look at the videos for her first singles - she's more like a European dance music performer in those.

Yes, I do not disagree. And she was also very uninteresting back then. She wouldn't have become this huge phenomenon everyone tries to emulate if she had stayed with that style.

hey, don't have to break that to me...Besides Prince, Bowie is my absolute favorite singer out there. I absolutely love him. It was somewhat of a joke but my point was that Lady Gaga is playing a game David Bowie just about invented. You're absolutely right when you say Bowie without flamboyance still leaves a great body of work...

Point is: they all present a complete package, wether you're talking about bowie, prince or lady gaga...they all are able to make everything fit, their music, stage shows, clothing, media appearances, it all fits together into a whole that's larger than the sum of it's individual parts. Saying lady gaga's music wouldn't fly without the weirdness may be right, but just like with the others the reverse is also true: her weirdness wouldn't fly without her music either!

I apologize for my previous post, then.

My issue is not with Lady GaGa per se, its with those folks who already put her on a pedestal when she just begun. Give her more time to stretch her chops and tackle more grounds musically.

I mean its almost impossible to see somebody enjoying a certain relatively "younger" artist nowadays without them putting that artist in a worshipping status,,,,I understand their reasoning for it though because, its also almost impossible to find an intersting artist on the mainstream map nowadays. STILL its a big reason why most of these artists end up as recluses shortly after their acclaimed 1st or 2nd albums(Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, Amy Whinehouse among other names that escape me at the moment) they can't live up to people's expectations.
