Appreciation for BeeGee's "Spirits Having Flown"

Just for a change, I ordered a copy of an album I haven't heard since the early 80s--the BeeGee's last hit record of that decade--"Spirits Having Flown." And there are many good songs on it! I think that the BeeGees were typecast with "Saturday Night Fever" but this album has some good songs on it. Some songs--unh--but--most really strong after all these years IMO. Today, they make my hair blow in the wind! cool

Well, if no one appreciates these guys for good song writing on this forum, I do:

"Love You Inside Out"

Baby, I can't figure it out
Your kisses taste like honey
Sweet lies don't gimme no rise
Oh, oh what you're trying to do?

Livin' on your cheatin'
and the pain grows inside me
It's enough to leave me crying in the rain
Love you forever but you're
driving me insane
and I'm hanging on
Oh, oh, I know I'll win, I'll never give in

Our love has got the power
Too many lovers in one lifetime
ain't good for you
You treat me like a vision in the night
Someone there to stand behind you
When your world ain't working right

I ain't no vision, I am the man
who loves you inside and out
backwards and forwards with
my heart hanging out
I love no other way

What am I gonna do if we lose that fire?
Wrap myself up and take me home again
Too many heartaches in one
lifetime ain't good for me
I figure it's the love that keeps you warm

Let this moment be forever
we won't ever feel the storm
I ain't no vision, I am the man
who loves you inside and out
backwards and forwards with
my heart hanging out

I love no other way
What am I gonna do if we lose that fire?
Don't try to tell me it's all over
I can't hear a word I can't hear a lie
No man could love you more
And that's what I'm cryin' for
You can't change the way I feel inside

You are the reason for my laughter and my sorrow
Blow out the candle I will burn again tomorrow
No man on earth can stand
between my love and I
And no matter how you hurt me
I will love you till I die

I ain't no vision, I am the man
who loves you inside and out
backwards and forwards with
my heart hanging out
I love no other way
What am I gonna do if we lose that fire? cool

This is the best song on the album--I totally love it:

[img]Watching ev'ry day go by , living in a foolish game
Just the way I feel today
Living my life without you
Never hear a single word , living in a lullaby
Praying ev'ry tear I cry
Living my life without you
And ev'rywhere you go I fly (I love you with a special feeling)
And darling till the day I die (baby never stop believing)
I'll be reaching out, I'll be reaching out , Ahh....
Reaching out (there's a woman goin' through me)
I'll be reaching out ( got a chance to hold you to me ) Ahh..
Ev'rything is lonely and I need you
Living my life forever , forever

Watching ev'ry day go by
Living on the one I love
What I got is not enough
Living my life without you
And I believe in yesterday (yesterday was once tomorrow)
With love, with love wide open ev'ry way(baby you're the light I follow)
I'll be reaching out , I'll be reaching out , Ahh
Reaching out (there's a woman going through me)
I'll be reaching out (got a chance to hold you to me)
Ev'rything is lonely and I need you
Living my life forever
I'll be reaching out
I'll be reaching out
Reaching out
I'll be reaching out
Living my life forever

Reaching out , I'll be reaching out[/img]

I think 'Children Of The World' is their strongest album, but 'Spirits Having Flown' is brilliant as well. The uptempo songs are excellent..."Tragedy",with its pulsing Eurodisco/rock sound,"Search/Find","Living Together",which received alot of radio airplay without ever becoming a single, and the soulful "Love You Inside You",one of three Number One hits from this album.

The ballads are equally impressive."Too Much Heaven" is the Bee Gees' finest ballad.A masterpiece! I thought that they would never be able to top "How Deep Is Your Love",but they managed to do it."Reachin Out" is also nice.I would have chosen this song as a fourth single.Soulful and melodic,it's an extraordinary,well-arranged song with soaring vocals.Another song that deserves special mention is "I'm Satisfied",a cool, midtempo number with a great hook.

"Reaching Out" is heavenly music That melody...wow! It's definitely one of the strongest tracks on the album. This should have been the fourth single.

Great song writing even with songs they could have let stay in their grooves, they write these extra sections and bridges that show you they were not just slapped together

There's an excellent outtake from this album. It's called "Desire".It didn't make the final tracklist,so the brothers gave it to their younger brother Andy, who recorded it on his 1980 'After Dark' album. They simply removed Barry's lead vocal and replaced it with Andy's vocals...

I remember I bought the vinyl back in high school from a friend who didn't like it. I must admit I don't come back to the whole Spirits album very often, their Greatest Hits collection holds almost everything from them I need these days

Well damn, I'm gonna have to pull this one out this weekend. I bought it on a vinyl dig last year but I've mainly only listened to "Tragedy" and "Love You Inside Out".
Andy is a four letter word.
