Janet is real, she isn't too good for anything. The fact that Janet is spreading joy without an ego is what makes her so cool.
Janet is beyond limitations - she is too big for boundaries. She's always intersting, and ought to be respected as an artist rather than a mere constructed for-profit pop image. There is little respect in the world for artists today, especially in teh USA, as few now respect what an artist offers - instead favoring their own limited individalist understanding as the standard of the world. People ought to respect Janet, and wait to see what she offers. In my opinion, Janet has never stopped being an artist - and her performance has never ceased to be interesting. Aguilera is certainly not my fav, but I do find it quite strange and disturbing that so mamy internet people want to see her fail. People who insist Janet is washed up are blind to the amazing art that she offers. Janet gives all she can give of herself to people as an artist, yet so many want to dismiss her as selfish/washed up/snobby. What those people don't know is that they are projecting their own understanding of the world upon Janet, and they will be forever blind to what she offers so long as they maintain such arrogance. In general, people do not respect art any longer. The FEEDBACK video was amazing, and inspires a great deal of thought. Most, however, will laugh at that notion because their arrogance has rendered them blind. It has been said that with THE BIRDS, Hitchcock offered a commentary criticizing the US public school system, arguing that it renders people blind of appreciating art - which is why in the film the birds attacked the children as they left the cage-like school. People who think Janet is too good for things are also wrong, as Janet is too sweet/real to be too good for anything. Because Janet donated her celebrity to Tyler Perry, moving him to the mainstream with a #1 film (the first one) - and he is now a household name. She didn't have to do that, and she was definately too good for WDIGM (also Nutty Professor). She doesn't care - she just wants to have fun and help others have fun. Her tour went to small cities like Tulsa, because she went on tour more for the fans than for herself. It is so sad to read about people who want to hurt her reputation by dismissing her more recent work, because she doesn't have to offer any public art for her own sake at this point. Money can no longer be speculated as her motive, as she has all she will ever need. To all the art haters and the oppressively unappreciative - just like my favorite stance on gay marrirage and abortion - if you don't want it for yourself, no one is forcing you to have it - but please keep it to yourself, and stop wasting time attempting to force yourself upon others. You don't own the world, and negative opinions offer nothing but potential embarassment for those who offer, as they eventually discover their own blindness. Negativity often reflects a narrow mind, as there is something to like/learn about everything and everyone. Bullies are often too wrapped up in themselves to ever develop artistic perception or even think beyond themselves much at all. There is too much competition/comparison in dominant USA culture of individualism - reflecting the spoiled failure of free thought. Because we think freely, we've been so spoiled that we no longer think at all. Charting and ranking popular appeal does not equate to artistic merit, as such ideological thinking only equates to the validation of the wealthy. The idea that those at the top are better and more deserving than those at the bottom is ridiculous, as status is not free or just. Popular mass art is the combination of folk and fine art, two unpopular forms that are just as valid - if not more original, than the popular. It is a shame that artists often have to die in order to begin to be understood and appreciated by the otherwise blind public. Prince has never been fully appreciated, as his genius ought to be the subject of a great deal of academic study. However, it is likely that Prince's art won't be appreciated by more than a few until long after his death. The "death" of Michael Jackson has opened many eyes to see that he was performing all along. Despite the fact that he stated (performed) that he lived life on the stage, few gave the words a thought/chance and took time to understand what he meant at the time. In the future, it will be revealed that Jackson was much more a performer/entertainer than people ever understood - truly of the greatest. Bottom line: I am happy to hear that Janet is performing on the show, and she is interesting enough to MAKE ME watch the karaoke program. I never watch that show, but in 2006 I did have it on that station by chance when Prince came on the finale and sang Lolita. I had no idea the show was having its finale that night, and I had been too busy to read that Prince was rumored to go on. To say the least, I was pleasantly surprised to overhear THE ARTIST in the background noise produced by the tv, and I quickly rushed to go watch. 3121 is one of my fav Prince albums, and it was a nice to see him be as cool as he can be. Prince definately could choose to be TOO GOOD for that show, but by going on he did his duty as an artist - entertainment that only he can offer. | |
