did Michael Jackson play an instrument?

I mean really, you gotta put Prince up there as one of the sheer ALL AROUND TOP musicians.

Enough of this dusty Broken record ....I have heard this broken record like million times here, MJ is both, entertainer and musician.

Since when you have to play an instrument to be a musician? MJ was responsible for the majority of his songs, written and composed solely by him.

And those songs he created weren't usual songs, songs that changed people lives and influenced other cultures ,languages.

and I'm not saying that Michael Jackson doesn't deserve the accolades he earned, or that he's not a good musician, but he certainly wasn't the end-all, be-all, nobody is better than Michael Jackson, takes all 5 top slots because no one else can do what he did...

I mean shit you ARE on a Prince board....

Over the past 50 years, I watched Prince do what Michael did....and I never once saw Michael do what Prince can do.

You can't give Prince his props? Really?? FOHWTS!

Marvin Gaye (just to let y'all know I ain't forgot lol)
James Brown
Mickey Stevenson (though he was never known as a popular singer, he still did a lot to build Motown as an A&R man, a songwriter, and producer, he knew his way around music)
James Jamerson did more things with that bass that made him seem like he engineered it himself. lol

He never does. lol

No that's just a cop out for a new generation of the young and the talentless. Raised on video games and music tv that doesn't play music. Too lazy to put the work in to actually learn how to play a note but make yourselves feel good by creating a new definition for the term 'musician'

You are joking, right...?

If not, then you and I have very different views as to how to interpret the word "musician"...which is odd cos I never had it down as an ambiguous word before...

definitely! nod

just because MJ didn't play an instrument doesn't make him less of a musician....but the fact that Prince plays just about all of them, and sings, and dances, makes him a better ALL AROUND musician!

Otherwise what would be the point of listening to Prince? wink

rolleyes

I'm gonna protest Michael's name used in blasphemy when it comes to threads like this. lol

The OP had Mike's name in it and I respect it. Now let's MOVE ON! Shit. lol

Whenever Michael Joseph Jackson's name come up, you guys get into a twisting rod. I personally think MJ was an all around musician/artist/entertainer, whatever. But that's just my opinion.

Now for those who HAVEN'T made their list and wanna argue about why MJ is in there, MAKE YOUR OWN LIST! lol

Thank you. lol

P.S., this doesn't go out to ANYONE in particular. THIS IS GENERAL! lol
