The only thing to do really is get the entire catalog. There aren't that many of them, and each album is absolutely essential.

Hey hey, easy there... lol wink

Hell, I'm not sure if Beatles for Sale, Yellow Submarine or even half of Magical Mystery Tour are essential. And Let It Be is not thaaaat great to begin with...the problem is that each of those albums have 5 or 6 killer songs, and many of them don't appear in any compilation hmmm, so...ehem, did I talk about down_ _ _ _ing the best songs of those albums and just forget about the filler? whistling lol

But the rest of their albums are a must have that's for sure nod

Nope, they are all must-haves, dammit. How can you possibly have a full understanding of The Beatles missing "Blue Jay Way," and "All Together Now" cool

I'd say Beatles for Sale has enough gems to make it essential - and it's place as a stylistic bridge is also important to understand the Beatles story. Magical Mystery Tour's first side is a weary, half-baked lesser echo of Sgt. Pepper for sure, and yet... it still has that Walrus tune. smile

As for Yellow Submarine... i don't really count that as a proper Beatles album, but I will agree it's non-essential - - apart from Hey Bulldog. That's a killer track.

I like Baby You're a Rich Man. The world didn't really need Blue Jay Way or Your Mother Should Know, I'll agree.

But Flying is lovely.

To paraphrase Bono (on the Rattle and Hum CD), we've got to steal that song back. wink I'm not going to let my enjoyment of it be spoilt just cos he used it to fuel his psychosis

I know. Damn Manson! I love Helter Skelter

I love Helter Skelter too! One of the few songs I really love by The Beatles, but I can't help but think about Manson when I hear that song.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Aw c'mon you guys. Manson didn't write it and they weren't inspired by him to write it. It's just a song Charles liked. Well, no shit, it's a good song.

Who knows the kind of ungodly acts committed to your favorite albums, some of y'all in your own bedrooms! Leave the song be.

just listen to the red and blue hits albums (with them leaning over a balcony). if you don't like most off those, then you probably won't like anything else they did.

This is actually a good tip. Beatles hits often were only released on singles and were not featured on the regular albums. Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, Get Back; just a few songs not on regular albums, but compiled on the second best of compilation of the 1967-1970 period; also known as the Blue Album.

I might recommend Past Masters Volumes 1 and 2 because they have been remastered.

yeahthat Even the "The Beatles 1" compilation (that looks like the red + the blue albums together) is ok for a start.

(IMHO Revolver and Sgt Pepper's are their best albums music A Day In The Life thumbs up! )

True, but they are less of an introduction to a nubie. I mean, German language songs... hmm

But RAIN makes it worth it, sure.

True. A few songs on Volume 1 are totally unnecessary. But those remasters sound really good.
