best of decade compilations: 90s?!?!?!

Okay by the time 1995 rolled around, we were SWIMMING in eighties compilations.

How come when I go to the store, I still see new eighties compilations produced in 2010 and none for the 90s (or 00s) for that matter?

I know, 00's might be a little soon, BUT there were 80s compilations in the very early 90s. (Maybe this was more of a demand to have those songs on compact disc?)

Anyway...

where are the fucking 90s compilations?

do 90s artists still control their catalogs that tightly??

If you have any good 90s comps, I'd like to see 'em.

That's an early 90s compilation, I'm not sure many people like the whole decade the way people love the 80s.

I'm sayin', there's something to be said for good selection on a retrospective.

I find the only good comps I can find are ones from back in the actual day, like... MTV Buzz Bin comps or something.

I think the sound of the 90s changed quite rapidly, or at least the same as the 80s, though.

Couldn't some slick marketing position the 90s as a really consistant decade?

We have enough fucking hindsight to do it now.

I wonder if that anti-sell out attitude of the 90s actually followed the artists into this decade and they are refusing to have their old hits compiled? confuse

To be fair I think most decade compilations focus tend to focus on the earlier part of the decade, not the latter.

But I swear this compilation is so early 90s, it is trying to get in on that 80s nostalgia again!!!

"Opposites Attract"? "Hold On"?

You know, maybe it will happen in the 2010s.

There was still a lot of 70s nostalgia happening in the 90s too, it's always a twenty-year cycle.

But like I said, by the 90s we were already getting those "best of 80s" comps, and movies like The Wedding Singer with all eighties soundtracks.

I just watched this youthful romantic movie called 500 Days Of Summer, and all of the characters apparently went to high school or middle school in the late 90s, yet the soundtrack was all The Smiths, and really old sheit.

When am I going to get my "Big Chill" type of movie that uses Portishead for 90s nostalgia???

You know what the closest thing to this there has been so far?

The Wackness, set in the summer of 1994.

The soundtrack is all...

1. The What - The Notorious B.I.G. feat. Method Man
2. You Used To Love Me - Faith Evans
3. Flava In Your Ear - Craig Mack
4. Summertime - DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince
5. Can't You See - Total featuring Notorious B.I.G.
6. I Can't Wake Up - KRS-One
7. The World Is Yours - Nas
8. Can I Kick It? - A Tribe Called Quest
9. Heaven & Hell - Raekwon
10. Bump N' Grind- R. Kelly
11. Just A Friend - Biz Markie
12. Tearz - Wu-Tang Clan
13. Long Shot Kick De Bucket - The Pioneers

This CD should have been called "The Most Annoyingly Overplayed Songs of the 1990's."

I'm having a little 90s nostolgia now that I have some time to look back on the decade....now the just past decade's music....Beyond some albums that were for the most part not commerical successes, I can't think of anything worth compiling.

But every decade has big hits that define the pop culture, but would they include the right ones in the compilations is the question.

Don't give me fucking "Mambo No. 5". How about "Are You That Somebody" by Aaliyah. Yknow?

Maybe this is my destiny - no one else can do it better lol
