Rangers fans prove Simply the Best, taking Tina Turner hit back into the Top Ten

A HIT by Tina Turner, right, from the 1980s reached the top 10 of the charts last night after an internet campaign supported by Rangers fans.
Simply the Best grabbed ninth position in the UK singles chart after the football club's fans backed it online.

A number of supporters from rivals Celtic were backing Gerry And The Pacemakers' You'll Never Walk Alone on a string of internet websites including social networking site Facebook.

The supporters of the two Glasgow teams were each hoping that their song would reach the No 1 spot, however, former X Factor contestant Diana Vickers hit the top of the chart with her first solo release. Her debut single Once went straight to No 1, knocking US star Usher from the top spot.

Simply the Best originally peaked at No 5 in 1989.

Internet campaigns have increased sales and chart positions of songs before. Last year, Rage Against The Machine's Killing In the Name of was propelled to the Christmas No 1 position after an internet campaign. The rap metal act saw their expletive-ridden 1992 hit sell 500,000 copies in one week and become the first ever Christmas No 1 only available through downloads.

The previous four Christmas No 1s were by X Factor winners including Alexandra Burke's version of Hallelujah in 2008 which was one of the biggest-selling festive singles ever.
