if you think this guy is a great vocalist on record, you have to see this guy live, talent in abundance!!

I have "Live @ The 9:30" in D.C. and he tore it the fuck down especially "Pretty Brown Eyes" and "Is This Pain Or Pleasure". He's a bad ass drummer/percussionist too.

nod
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

He's underrated but a LOT of vocalists listen to him. R. Kelly has ripped vocal licks from him on MORE THAN A FEW occasions as well as several other vocalists that have been on the charts. Nobody likes to give him props but a lot of people sure do like to steal from him and Mint.

Which ones? U got any examples?

(not trying to start anything. I'm just curious).

idk about R. stealin from Stokley being that they're both real distinctive and his vocal style is closer to a blend of Ron Isley, Donny Hathaway, and Marvin Gaye, where Stokley draws from falsettos of cats like Stevie Wonder, Phillip Bailey, Michael Jackson and the timbre's of Tomi Jenkins & Wayne Cooper (Cameo) and Terrence Trent D'Arby. As far as stealin ideas check out "Ever Since You Went Away" by "Art N Soul. The bridge is a rip from the hook of "Someone To Love"

Wasn't Art N Soul produced by Raphael Saadiq or
he just produced the single one?

You can add guitarist to his list of talents too. See the 9:30 club dvd when
they play Funky Weekend.

Ursus Minor is a group out of France.
Stokley's vocal work is totally different on their work than it is on Mint's work. I love it.

I'm sure MC has plenty of great vocal work from Stokley since the stuff I've checked out early in there career. But, I've always dug Stokley's vocals on "So Fine". The energy is just crazy. He and the lead guitar worked great together on that joint! cool

I know alot of people have these MC vs. TTT battles, but in my opinion, Ol'Ralphy boy ain't trying to see Stokley vocally. Rafael is a one of the funkiest bass players to come out of the 80's & 90's though cool

Very, very nice. Good stuff. Gray, you always hip me to their treasures. I still spin their cover of "Joy Inside My Tears" regularly. Very appreciative, man.

thumbs up!
