Looks like a texturizer not a full on straightner/relaxer. A texturizer is supposed to loosen the curl of the hair not make it straight like a relaxer would do. in this pic of Damita Jo as a little tyke you can see her hair has a bit of coarse curl to it. So adorable!

and for the record I prefer course hair- you can do more with it- that fine hair like hers is one of the reasons she needed hair added in.....

Damn, I didn't know this was gonna turn into a "good hair/bad hair" debate (by the way, when I say good hair, I mean healthy). I have thick, kinky hair myself and absolutely love it. Personally, I'm not one to say that all black women should have long hair, or that good hair means "straight and fine". I won't cut mine simply because it doesn't look all that great on me (I've tried it before), not because I have some hangup about my hair.

Janet's perfect bone structure makes short hair look great on her.

My thoughts exactly. I'm sure that Janet had to cut her hair because it's damaged from too many perms, dyes, and weaves. Many women have this problem. That's also why her hair is thin. Before Janet became super famous, her real hair was healthy and thick. I don't mind the short hair, but it doesn't look good with all of that gel. The slicked back style works for El Debarge, not her. She should just let her hair be free.
