Welcome to … the future of book publishing?

A video-enhanced digital book chronicling the exploits of the rock band Guns N’ Roses will be released on Wednesday by Vook, the multimedia company.

The vook, “Reckless Road,” will include the text of the same book by Marc Canter, the band’s historian, accompanied by videos, pictures and behind-the-scenes interviews with “strippers, roadies, ex-bandmates and rock insiders,” Vook announced on Tuesday.

Vook has joined with publishers and authors to make enhanced editions of electronic books, including a short story by Anne Rice and a children’s book by Rudyard Kipling, that can be read on iPhones, iPads and other digital devices.

Bradley Inman, the chief executive and founder of Vook, promised that Guns N’ Roses fans can now experience “Reckless Road” in a handheld device, “minus the homelessness, drugs and crime that pervaded the early days of GNR.”


It has a suggested price of $4.99 and can be downloaded from Vook's website, or from Apple's iTunes.
