Mayer Hawthorne - A Strange Arrangemenet

I'm listening 2 the "Why Did I Get Married Too" soundtrack and this song just caught my ear. I see that it was previously released, but this song is so good to me. Does anyone know this guy? I see he has issued a few independent releases. Are they any good?

I've been checkin' this cat eversince Cinnie hipped me to him love and even my non-virgin ears thought it was recorded in 1972.

And yeah, the whole album is great...

mr.green

Yeah, it's from 2009, not even a year old yet though. I remember one year ago in May I got my friend the heart-shaped single that was out before the album.

Sorry.
Being from Detroit, I wanted this album to be really good.
But I cannot get past the fact that the guy CANNOT SING.

I mean his voice is HORRIBLE.

He should stick to producing.
If you want to hear what he SHOULD sound like, check out Jamie Lidell.

So says Groovelounge.

corny.

anyway Mayer Hawthorne acknowledges he hasn't been singing for very long, and part of the album's charm is his voice.

From what I've heard of his live show, he fares pretty well "being from Detroit" himself

Not being able to sing is "charm"?
lol

No, that's NOT BEING ABLE TO SING.
and if you think that song is corny, that speaks volumes. so, it's not a surprise you're impressed by Mayer Hawthorne's "talent".

Music is a personal thing to me.
The "sheep mentality" of "music fans" just drives me a little crazy, is all.
So if a bunch of people decide that something is "good" (Cody ChestnuTT, Lady Gaga, Mayer Hawthorne) then it must be. Except for when it's garbage.

Production wise, it's not even stellar. It's decent.
The vocals are UNFORGIVABLE.

And yes, that's my opinion.

hmmm Could it be all of his fans are actually fans of the album and not of the "sheep mentality"?

I'm glad music is personal to you. Create a thread about an act you adore and contribute to the org in a positive way thumbs up!

Wow eek

Why jump the gun, though? confused If its personal for you, why it shouldn't be personal for us too? Why we gotta suffer from "sheep mentality"? Just because we don't share the SAME VIEW as yours? lol

I have 2 of Jamie's albums and I like him also. I haven't heard Mayer's full album, but I will check it out for myself and draw my own conclusions.

Mayer Hawthorne's album is worth a listen. Just heard about Jamie Lidell from this topic and he's good too. Another blue eyed soul singer worth checking out is James Morrison (who has a Sananda/TTD type singing voice). Here's a video of him covering 'Wishing Well' here
