Christina Aguilera’s Label Talk Single Failure

Despite an initially warm welcome from radio, Christina Aguilera’s comeback single ‘Not Myself Tonight’ has somewhat fizzled on the US charts, managing only a #23 peak on the Billboard Hot 100.

In a rare industry occurrence, Aguilera’s record label, RCA, have spoken out on their disappointment in the single’s performance. Check out what the label source had to say ever-reliable fansite Xtina Web after the jump:

New single soon?

Yes, there will be a new single on the way. But it’s not planned any earlier than the albums release. faint faint faint faint faint faint

Is RCA disappointed?

Yes, ‘Not Myself Tonight’ is what we believe to be a great song. Unfortunately it was analysed and “ripped” apart by the media – with comparisons and judgements.

Why did you guys fail so hard?

The pop music world is changing constantly, and we don’t view it as a fail. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t – and the time obviously wasn’t right for this release to achieve what it was meant to achieve.

Any big news??

Nope. zipped zipped zipped

Pristine one more thing. You know if some countries like Japan or iTunes will have more tracks? Thanks.

iTunes tracks – you bet

Is “WooHoo” the second single?

Not at this stage, no. It was an intentional leak, and was not a leak of a 2nd single. clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping

Have you heard the album? or seen the booklet?

Heard the album… yes. Can talk about it in depth, no.

Can you name a couple favorites?

I don’t know the names of them as they were played off the album to a group. I’ve known Glam from hearing it before, and there’s one towards the end of the album – I really sway towards it being the one featuring Peaches. Anyway, it’s awesome! bored bored

When Not Myself Tonight’s release, you mentioned several songs were considered as the 1st single… Care to share which were?

Glam, Bionic and another song that I forget were considered. It wasn’t Not Myself Tonight – that was a last hour decision by Christina and her reps. It wasn’t WooHoo either.

Woohoo leaked before anyone else leaks it! it was a on a risky bar of leaking !

Not really. If it leaked before the intentional leak, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Where they aware that ‘Not Myself Tonight’ was boycotted from radios?

Oh, they told us. dead dead dead dead

It pretty much goes without saying, but it’s clear that Christina’s ‘Bionic’ project hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts – which is worrying to say the least.

While many of her supporters seem to cite the fact that ‘Dirrty’ peaked at #48 on the Hot 100, yet the album it was featured on, ‘Stripped’, went on to become one of the year’s biggest sellers, we are in a very different industry than 8 years ago when that LP dropped. With sales not being what they once were, an ever-increasing number of artists and labels are learning that you have to release that AAA track from the jump – no dilly-dallying or playing around.

So what this will mean for Xtina’s ‘Bionic’ album (due June 8th) will be real interesting to see…

This from a label who overly charged an album from an American Un-Idol contestant whose sales numbers are not living up to their expectations. lol

Classic answer that means, "Because we suck at judging good music".

Maybe the single failed because people are tired of hearing about Christina's vagina being lit up like the Sidney Harbor bridge on New Years.

It's funny but it seems like that old concept that sex sells is really overrated now. Christina Madonna-ized herself and it still didn't work.

They wouldn't call that "leaked" second song a single or hit unless the reception was better for it too.

From the way the set list looks, don't look like there's a ballad to be found. A ballad is what saved her career. lol

Its more than that, the industry is tired now, its looking towards other things, Xtina is old now in industry standards, people dont know what to expect from her, first she is a teen, then a raunchy sex kitten, then sexy but classy on standards, and then she is raunchy and graphic again. Its great to try new things over and over, but it can also be viewed as just trying to do what is hot now, the whole raunchy dance thing is the "gaga" thing, and then a track with Nicki Minaj, that to me is not artistic, its following a trend of the day, and that is not what an artist, who wants to stick around or be taken seriously does.

The decade known as the 2010's is still young and already the music industry is convince that Lady Gaga has the "Artist Of The Decade" award locked.

i think it's flopped because gaga sounds and dresses a lot like her
only thing is xtina does have the better voice so now some people might think
''well is there any point? gaga's enough like her''

and her acting like a bitch because of someone coughing might have justified people being put off

''now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, a fanatical criminal''
