The plan was for Maxwell to release the second album in his "BLACKsummers'night" trilogy this summer. But success is getting in the way. The best-selling crooner said the popularity of his comeback disc is forcing him to delay the release of the next one.

"I had a plan -- every year something new, and I thought that that would be a good enough time to sort of give people space to feel like they weren't being inundated by what I was doing," he said. "I've had this entire trilogy with me for years, for four or five years, so I can wait. I just want people to get it when they want it. ... At this point, it's in their hands.

"BLACKsummers'night" -- his first album in eight years -- has sold more than 1 million copies since it was released last summer. It won the 37-year-old the first two Grammys of his career earlier this year.

He's just launched a tour with singer-actress Jill Scott, his third in two years.

Thats bull, he isnt making this call his label is. At this point in his career he should be able to say something, but the "bottom line" rules.

yeahthat

The article also stated that he just started his 3rd tour in 2 years. That sounds like a lot to me. I wonder if the label is also making him do too many tours. The label is so obsessed with money that they will work him like a slave. He could damage his vocal chords if he overdoes it. I'm sure that's probably the reason why he was hoarse at the end of the last tour. I'm also worried because the last time Maxwell was overworked, he hid in a cave for 7-8 years. It sounds like history may repeat itself.

does anyone have the lengths of these tours? was it just in the US? cause i see alot of times labels/artists will say they have been on tour nonstop for 5 years and yet are playing 10 dates a year or something like that.

I can see that you're not a Maxwell fan. You can find his tour dates on his fan websites or ticketmaster. He has done far more than 10 dates. He's toured in the US, Canada, and overseas.

which is why i asked for the tour dates, i didnt say Maxwell did 10 dates nor questioned his touring but pointing out how labels tend to "label" a few dates nowadays as "tours".

It's sometime "between September and February". That's what he said in another interview.

They should release it around the holidays, like November or so. February may also bring in big sales as it's a slow time for new releases.

Sade released her/their comeback album in February, look how that sold.

Yeah he is due to come back to Charlotte within the next month and he was just here in

September or October.

As long as it comes out, that's fine. He's on tour anyway, so let the tour end w/ Jill Scott, give the public a bit of a respite, then hit 'em with the new CD. We'll get it when the time is right.

I don't care who put the statement out - it'll happen when it's supposed to.

This is bullshit, people have had enough time to digest those 9 songs. I've heard that is next one is some kind of mix between the sound of animal collective/Grizzly Bear/Dirty Projectors and his traditional sound.

And he should stop touring for now cause his voice is tired. He can even sing those old songs properly. He need to rest a little bit.

This is true. When I saw him last September, he wasn't hitting those high notes on his earlier hits and it was noticable though he did a good job covering it up. The man still gives a good show though.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I've no problem with this. So his label wants to milk every penny from the product of their investment. Who can blame 'em? shrug

In the meantime, BLACKsummersnight still has enough life in it to keep me going for a bit. And then we should have to wait a while. Folk generally appreciate things more after there's been some yearning attached. smile I say let these fools suffer, Max!! nod

Bullshit! I can't stand when artists promise "trilogy" or a new album at this point and it doesn't happen. If the album is done, then the record company is sitting on it and will likely RUIN it. I'm not even a Maxwell fan (I might buy his albums at some point, but don't own anything yet) but I just can't stand this crap.

that's one of the things i'll always admire in prince. if he's got his albums ready,

he'll get them out there. 3 disc package? no problem. saturating the market? get

thee fock out of here, i'm prince man. LOL.

as if the world wasn't ready for a double disc maxwell album after all those years!

if all 3 albums have only 9 songs and the run time of a bulky EP, he could have put

them together as a double disc package.

i never understood this whole 3 disc project, smeared out over 3 years (or in this

case, more likely a decade).

Badu promised 3 albums years back. at least we've seen 2 by now but still, she was

also promoting "3 new albums this year" in, i think, 2007.

From what Maxwell said in one of his interviews is that there were going to be 9 songs on the '09 release, 10 songs on the '10 and yes 11 on the '11.

I hope they decide to keep the schedule as one per calendar year.

Thing is.

Prince is a free agent, he has the power to release or shelf any of his projects. Badu, Maxwell and Bilal(who was supposed to release his new album earlier this year) are not,,,,the ONLY thing they could release an album is through the approval of their bosses, and nowadays you can't release an album without a time quota.

Blacksummernight was supposed to be released in 2005!!! But due to the homosexual theme, the label thought it might jeopardise his female fan base, therefore we have the re-worked trilogy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Maxwell threw both of his hands on the air and walked out on the whole project.
