Christina Aguilera: World tour, next single, deluxe edition

I, like many, am not in love with the first single from Chrissy A's 'Bionic' album, but she is coming with a world tour, several appearances, and a huge ass deluxe edition of her new album (23 tracks...someone was putting in time at the studio nod )...not to mention this possible second single featuring Nicki Minaj which is much better than 'Not Myself Tonight' IMHO.

On Oprah:

Bionic interview:

Honestly, people can hate on Christina all they want but at the end of the day she's the real deal...always was; always will be. Image don't mean shit when real vocals come into the room so all the other 'divas' can bow down and lick her stilettos as far as I'm concerned because they ain't got shit on Christina at the end of the day. Even the haters know that she can vocally wipe the floor with all these bitches. It's okay to admit she's great...the truth can hurt sometimes but it's good for u. cool

She put over a year in the studio and while 23 tracks sounds like a lot, I always hear artists/bands saying there were over 50 to chose from. Put to offer that many on one disc is pretty generous. Let's hope their good. "Not Myself Tonight" might be a slow burner (as far as liking it goes....if it hasn't hit now in this ADD culture, it won't later) but I think "Woohooo" is stupid and boring by Britney standards, let alone Christina's. The album might be great but so far it's looking like a failure!

I think her timing with this particular album is what will ultimately make the album a failure (if it is) in the end because it's a sound that everybody is doing now. If she had done this type of album before B2B than it would probably have been more exciting and anticipated, but in her inteviews she has her own personals reasons for releasing this type of album and I was surprised to hear her say that she was initially inspired by this sound after hearing Prodigy's album when she was 15. At least there's a tour and Chrissy always puts on a hell of a live show. nod

A few weeks ago I played Not Myself Tonight for my father, huge Christina fan, has all her albums. While it was playing all he did was shake his head. He told me that it was not really up to his standards or hers but he'll wait and see what's next...A CD is more than just one track. Yesterday I sat him down again to listen to Woo Hoo. eek He was speechless. A couple of moments later he exclaimed that if the next 3 minutes I played for him was anything like the first 6 he's not buying it. And this is from a man who has all her shit, including the Christmas and Spanish thing and the Just Be Free mess.

I have to say I’m disappointed. Sometimes I’m not a fan of her personality but at the end of the day her voice is crazy. I’ve seen her live and she puts on a good show as well. I even liked her performance on Oprah a few weeks back and she got me interested again but none of these songs really grab me. I don’t believe just because a singer has a great voice that they should be pigeon-holed into doing a certain type of music and can’t do what they enjoy but hopefully they can get the best of the best and I’m not feeling that this is it. And for some reason I think Christina could use darker hair these days. shrug

I feel you on this. I'm disappointed, too. It reminds me of when Kelly Clarkson went off on a tangent and released My December, and it just bombed. She really sounded like a cheap copy of Evanescence or something. Clive got her in check, and her next album did great.

I liked the Oprah performance. Sometimes a song comes off better live. Reverb, live vocals, interaction - all of that plays into a song being better live a lot of times, including "Not Myself Tonight". It wasn't brilliant, but it was much more listenable than the album track.

I don't think CA has ever let herself be pigeon-holed into any type of music, based on her voice, or otherwise. If one thing is consistent, it's her changing up every album. I sort of knew the bubble gum first album wasn't always going to be her sound. Stripped proved that. Back To Basics was a bit long, but still had some interesting stuff on it. Bionic seems to be more image than substance, which is weird for her. She is usually good at having honed both in near-perfect symmetry. Every album had it's own look, it's own sound, it's own theme, etc (much like Prince used to do). This time around though, she's very out of balance. Less emphasis on music, and much more on the look.

Someone echoed the fact that she's coming across in those interviews like Madonna during the Erotica period, trying to be promote artsy and uniqueness, but with CA it's coming across as overly self-important, and a bit phony. That is the part that is disappointing. She has no humility, even in the midst of stepping into the spotlight.

I don't know how I feel about Bionic so far but it's not what I expected.

Stripped is my fave so far along with her Spanish language release, Mi Reflejo and I was really looking forward to something solid especially after that tasty appetizer, A Song For You.

But by pigeon holed I find that many people think if you have a great voice you shouldn’t do dance or electronica or radio-friendly R&B, etc.--that those are inferior genres for the non-singing folk. lol I don't necessarily agree. You can have a great voice and do whatever but that whatever should be good. They're already bringing something to the table with their amazing voice.

I think maybe I wanted something more earthy or organic from her but then when I heard the title I still thought maybe it was going to be some really serious dance music or something but it sorta reminds me of stuff I’ve heard before either by her or somebody else. I think Sex for Breakfast is standing out for me so far. With the breaks she takes between projects I'm not looking forward to the possible wait for the next and hopefully better disc.

We agree on that. It's pretty much what I said.

I don't necessarily agree that dance or electronica is an inferior genre. It's as valid as anything. No one would say Donna Summer, Martha Wash or Gloria Gaynor were inferior artists because of their main genre of music over the years. I actually think CA sounds better on some of her remixes than she does on the regular album tracks. If the artist is that good, they can truly sing anything (as you noted). But unfortunately, Bionic isn't shaping up as that good.

I would have loved to hear her do something organic, but she had a bit of that on her last CD. Not a lot, just touches of it. I'm just gonna wait and let her do her thing and by 2014, we'll be talking about the new CD again.

This performance is kinda cool. Anyways, I still don´t feel the album yet and my favourite so far is also Sex for Breakfast.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop singer Christina Aguilera on Monday canceled plans for a summer concert tour blaming work on a new film and an upcoming album that squeezed rehearsal time, according to a statement from her spokeswoman.

The American singer will appear in new movie "Burlesque," due in theaters later this year, and she is currently promoting a new album "Bionic," which is set for release on June 8.

"The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour date this wasn't possible," the statement said.

Again, I'll ask - What is your point by putting all this repeated information up?

I honestly don't get why she would announce an album and THEN a tour if she couldn't handle both. Guess it's hearsay to either think it was low sales or because Christina "wasn't ready".

I don't see the cancellation of her summer tour to be bad. I mean, those were just preliminary dates that the record co. piled on. I think they were trying to feel out how the album is going to do, and with all the negative reaction to Not Myself Tonight, they pulled the plug.

That doesn't mean that the album can't have a huge turnaround. Some of the biggest and most legendary albums didn't have good starting points, and then suddenly shot up the charts. Hell, remember Nick Drake? I'm not comparing Xtina to him, because he is miles better, but he was pretty much forgotten about when he was making albums, and then suddenly (after his death), people discovered how GOOD his albums were.

Bionic is a damn good album. I've been playing the leak all day, and it's brilliant. There are a few songs, like Woohoo, that I think would have been better left off the album, but overall it's a strong record. And I think it'll be a great hit, once people get off the "OMG She's COPYING LADY GAGA! SHOOT HER!" train. Lady Gaga didn't invent the type of music she does, and Xtina did it first. Get over it.

BINGO! Although I'd still argue that Goldfrapp and similar groups were doing this as far back as 2002/3, well before it became en vogue.

Exactly! And Michael Jackson was doing it back in the mid 90's, with HIStory. Remember that disc? Pretty techno pop in a way, wasn't it?

Regardless, people can dislike the new stuff. I don't care. I know I like it, and I know (from the reactions on Xtina's official forum) that more people like the new stuff than dislike it. I mean, there are thousands of posters on there, all commenting on how GOOD the new album is. If a few people prefer Genie In A Bottle over the newer, better stuff, I say good riddance. wink

Well then I wonder why they would do that anyway. shrug

I'd wait until next year too if I was trying to bring some attention to the album.

And no I give that dance-pop trend to Roisin Murphy and Goldfrapp before I give to Christina but all of them were doing it before Gaga.

THEN AGAIN, the synth pop thing has been in since this song came out:

It's had an up and down and up again climb since then.

Good point, Timmy. Xtina is not 100% original, but yet, when did she ever claim that she was?
