I used to work with one of the brothers, Art. Mark and Bart Thomas still play with Zapp. Vargas Thomas works for DHL and Tim Abrams has a band that still plays locally. Let me tell you a funny story. The second album has the group with jeri curl WIGS on the cover.Yeah, I said WIGS. All of them except Tim Abrams. He said Larry made them wear the wigs since it was in style. Tim flat out REFUSED to wear it. That is why he is the only one on the cover without it. Larry Troutman was a hot mess.

I swear... biggrin

1983 Something New

Others

Kipper Jones - Ordinary Story 1990
Human Body - Cosmic Round Up 1985
Curtis Mayfield - New World Order - 1996

Those are the only ones I know of, but the man worked with everybody and their mamma.

Oops. I don't know if Dayton is produced by Roger or not. I recently picked up either their 1983 or 1984 album on a vinyl dig about two months ago. I

think I may have them confused with the group, The Human Body, which I also downloaded their 1984 album "Make You Shake It" a few months ago. I had never heard anything from either of these two groups until a few months ago. Here's a link with the tracklisting of The Human Body's 1984 and samples....

Hi all, great topic !

Both New Horizons' albums will be soon reissued as a 2-on-1-cd :

http://www.funkytowngroov...g-fun/3050

A Japanese cd-reissue of the 2 albums was previously released somewhere around the early 90's, though that compilation missed a few album-tracks.

Roger produced Eric Benet's first album. He produced his son, Roger Troutman Jr. Stage name was Lynch. The name of the album was A Pinch Of Lynch. Ironically he is dead now.

Yeah, another unfortunate passing in the Troutman family.

rose dove

I've seen Lynch perform with Zapp in 1988. He released another album around 2000 :

This is from his debut :

I remember that Bart Thomas of the New Horizons played indeed drums on that tour from 1988, like you mentioned earlier. Funny story btw which you posted about those curly wigs.

Another son of Roger, Rufus Troutman III, released a solid album called "No Compromise", in 2001.
Some songs on there are more contemporary R&B, but he also salutes his dad with the traditional sound :

Interesting. I wonder if it's him on one of these liveshots from Mint Condition in 1986 :

He probably was. There was some old photos of MC on their website during
the Luxury Brown album and they had a photo with Roger Lynch in the lineup.
The band had that Minneapolis glam look and O Dell was rocking that
