Chili Peppers To Begin Work on New Album

May 12, 2010

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have confirmed that they are preparing to head into the studio to start working on a new album. In a recent interview with Spin, drummer Chad Smith revealed that the group has been working on songs since last October and will likely hit the record button sometime in July.

The currently untitled album will be the tenth studio offering for the Chili Peppers and their first new recording since 2006's Stadium Arcadium.

"Since last October we've been working on things, and probably in a few weeks we'll be going into the studio with Rick Rubin . . . Pre-production will take a few months, but I'd say by July we'll be laying down real tracks. We have a lot of material, probably about 20 songs," Smith said.

He continued on to explain that the group is ready to start a new chapter without guitarist John Frusciante, adding, "We were sad to see John leave the band, but he has to do what he wants and follow his path . . ."

"We're all thrilled to have Josh [Klinghoffer, RHCP's new guitarist] be part of the group now. He's been a friend of ours for a long time. He's played with us, he's played with John — he's a real natural fit."

Remember that RHCP album with Dave Navarro? Dave's style of recording guitar tracks were NOT the same way the John would do it.

But at this point of their lives, I think RHCP are going the way of KISS, in terms of keeping business going in the name of making money and not be bother by potential criticisms of missing fan-favorite band members.

As a long time fan of The Peppers, 1985, I really wish they would use another producer other than Rick Rubin. Jeesh.I mean I love John F and the stuff they did together but with a new guitarist and all...start fresh. They kinda sound like they've been writing the same album more or less since 1998.I dunno.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

John Frusciante is definitely one of the great guitarists of this generation and IMO the Chili Peppers last three records were among their best. There are a small handful of mega bands who actually got better with age/popularity . I put this band in that small group. Fruciante will be missed for sure but it's hard to expect the other guys to quit making music if they all still love what they are doing and want to continue to do it together.

As a fan of the Peppers, I'm definitely concerned about whether or not they'll be able to continue making good records without John. He's one of the best guitar players out there, and they definitely will miss him.

All their ish now sounds the same. Sad when you consider how fresh and groundbreaking they started out (and stayed up till the late nineties.)

I Have to respectfully disagree there early albums are groundbreaking and fantastic but i feel they are one of the few bands that got better with each album.

I Felt that Stadium Arcadium was there best work and By the Way is there 2nd best album with californication right at 3rd

I Must say though.. that i will omit One Hot minute it's just not up to par IMO
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen
