I don't really keep up with new of the new cats like Mister FAB and The Pack, but just Classic Bay Area stuff.

Not tryin' to say if was P, but I think he was the first with that West / South connect. And I noticed their styles were very similar. From some slang, to how wet ride cars and everything.

Yeah Master P was doing his thing in California around 1990 I believe or was it 1989, I'm not too sure, but they were doing the independent route for so long. They didn't return to New Orleans until 1995 or 1996, I forget. lol

Yeah, P started No Limit around 1989. Sometime around 94, he started recruiting New Orleans rappers but was still locate in the Bay until sometime in 95. The first real straight up South No Limit album was Ice Cream Man in Feb of 96 (even though he dropped Down South Husters, Mia-X and Tre-8 debut in late 95 all those still had West Coast connect weather in be King George or K-Lou on the tracks.)

TRU's True was released in like July of 95 and he was still in the Bay. Down South Hustlers and Tre-8 were released in October of 95 and Mia X (featured 3 Bay Area artist on the record) November of the same year.

P released Ice Cream Man in April of 96, so I guess sometime between late 95 and Spring of 96 is when he officially set up shop in New Orleans.

Oh, P got ran out the Bay. Yukmouth is seen as an OG, but he's gotten his head knocked a couple of times over the years

I was talking to my brother about P and No Limit's connection to the Bay. Although he still is cool with SOME people, he's not cool with a lot of ppl anymore

I gotta ask my brother, I'm out of the loop with it all lol

One thing's for sure. You won't hear any of P's songs played out here lol

The thing I heard is that cats were mad at his success more than anything when he went back home, not at him the person.

Most dudes were probably like "I remember that lil nicca sellin CD and Tapes out his car back in 91 and he left the Bay and blew up." That's what I get from dudes like Yukmouth.

Some in No Limit were upset that he left for New Orleans (his best friend King George and others like Calli G and Lil Ric.) Big Ed is the only one from Richmond that moved down south. He still tight with oo Short, Spice 1, 40, B-Legit, JT, Rappin 4-Tay, EA-Ski, Dre Dog ect.

That's the sentiment but many felt he forgot about the Bay

It's not jealousy though...or I don't think it is. These dudes are really smart businessmen. Some push units without doing tours lol

I wouldn't say he forgot abut the Bay. He was still shoutin' ut the Bay, doin' tracks with and on Bay artist records and even put out two more West Coast Bad Boyz compilations while still located in the NO. He signed a few Bay artist like Steady Mobb'n and Lil Italy (G-Note from the Funk Mob.)

The thing is, while in the Bay, P never blew up, but was on the verge of blowin' up. In the Bay, he wasn't a Pac, E-40, Spice 1, Celly, Rap-4-Tay hell even a Dru Down, Mac Mall or Dre Dog. He was on the scene since 90, but really didn't make a name for himself until Ghetto's Tryin' to Kill Me in early 94. What really got him off was the West Coast Bad Boyz comp later that year.

No Limit's highest chartin' album located in the Bay was TRU's True with I'm Bout It and Mobbin' Through the Hood.

What NO Heiro crew, No Pharcyde? This thread is "disqualified" without them. i know their stylings were more "east coast" but when I think Bay Area hip hop, they come to mind.

This song came out in '95 and this shit got played at my prom in 2006, and EVERYBODY knew the words lol

I'm from Philly(West Philly like the Fresh Prince to be exact, lol) and in the summer of 95 that Luniz cut was an anthem of sorts out here. It was played to death on the radio and at parties all summer that year.

I didn't know that about Master P starting out in the Bay Area. There's a good documentary about Mac Dre & the Bay area hip hop scene called 'Ghostride the Whip: The Hyphy Movement' which was shown over here a while ago on the UK's version of B.E.T. One of my favorite tracks from the bay is Spice-1 with Roger Troutman, Too $hort & Yukmouth called 'Suckaz Do What They Can'

He's a legend in Richmond (at least that's what he states in a song.)

Did he kill some cats in Rich-Town (his tracks from back when they was located in the Bay make it seem like it?)

I gotta be honest, when I hear about Bay Area hip hop legends, I never C Murder's names, but then again, I'm not big on bay hip hop like my brother and people I know are. But I do know he gets alot of love, but when it comes to being a bay area hip hop legend, I don't think he's on the same level as E40, Too $hort, or Mac Dre

I haven't heard a no limit track played out here in a looooong time

I mean in the street not the rap game, lol. He never released a solo record when in the Bay (was supposed to drop one in like 94 or 95 but went to jail.) He was on two TRU albums 93 and 95 (was barley on the first one from 92.)
