Who'd play Bowie in a biopic?

Sorry, scriptgirl. I stole your Dinah Washington thread idea. boxed

If a flick about the Dame were to be made, who'd get the part? Realistically? Do you figure they'd hire seperate actors to play him at different points in his life, or do the makeup thing on one performer?

No mothafuckin' body can play Bowie. Fuck what you heard. The only person who can be David Bowie is... DAVID FUCKING BOWIE!

There's probably someone who could, but they'd probably get that miserable Robert Pattinson to do it. Gawd he's horrible.

Hayden Christensen?

Pattinson's got some serious cheekbones, so sadly he'd probably make the shortlist of potential Bowies. confused

Sooner or later someone will want to do a movie about him. Either while he's alive with his blessing or once he passes.

Well that's unfortunate. A four-hour documentary would be perfect.

Further to your question..

would like to see a film about his whole life, or just one part of it?

and if only one period what period would you like it to be?

Too old.

Joseph Fiennes could morph into Bowie I think.

A movie about Bowie will definitely be done eventually. When they start casting I guess the leading role will be given to someone who is probably not even around yet.

Few suggestions, they would have to learn the English accent though. Except for one:

* Richard E. Grant (my best choice)
* Christian Bale
* Tobey Maguire
* Viggo Mortensen

Impossible

The only choice would be, like some of you have said, an unknown british lookalike with some experience in experimental theater...

Let's stress that. I wouldn't want a non-Brit attempting his accent. hmph!

A movie about his whole life would be fascinating but way too long unless they skipped over a whole lot.

I'd rather NOT see a flick about the Glam years. Biographies I have read about him focus too heavily on that period IMO. It feels more like the focus is there for the salacious details than any genuine interest in the mechanics of the Ziggy era.

Seeing an epic tale of what went on in Berlin could be something, or maybe his shift into Top 40 mainstream in the 80's.

Oh man! You have GOT to explore Bowie! So many "ch-ch-changes" and so much great music! Get hold of the DVD of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars to start off with.wildsign

Seriously, the music and visual performance worlds owe him a HUGE debt of gratitude. It's always felt to me that, while he is respected and generally admired, Bowie's influence is still overlooked and understated most of the time. I can think of damn few performers that didn't borrow a page from his book. Some even blatantly rip off without paying proper credit, but this thread's not the place for negativity...
