This is very strange to me. I guess the venom being spewed here is mostly based on the premise that she isn't who she says she is and/or represents to be for most of you. Is that it? I mean, if she was TRULY humble and not putting on this dumb act would she be more tolerable?

There are so many artists with personality hiccups that I don't even think that's worth getting into. (Isn't Prince the poster child for that discussion).

I mean, I get the whole arrogent chuckle thing being TREMENDOUSLY annoying. I do. I also get that she's not the best singer in the world.

But ultimately, it's about the songs. And that's where I would say I really disagree with you guys. Mind you, she has some REAL TURDS. The first two songs on her last album were beyond dreadful. And the song No One with the oh-oh-oh-oh tag at the end made me want to gouge my eyeballs out.

But she also has some real gems. I would say half the songs on her first three albums range from good to fantastic. (Yes that does leave half of the albums in another category).

With all the talentless hacks out there, here is someone who writes her own material and plays her own instrument.

I'm not a "fam" of anyone. I 'm not blind to some of her traits that can range from annoying to downright insulting. That being said, I don;t get why so many of you loathe her as much as you do.

I agree 150 million percent. When she's good, she's good. When she's bad, she's awful.

But being someone who is trapped in the 60s 70s and 80s like I am, I hear very few artists today who actually have ANYTHING good to my ears. So if the venom here is because she's over rated. That's cool. She may very well be overrated.

It just seems like everyone here thinks she's a talentless hack. And I think that's nowhere near the case.

Is she really an egocentric prima dona who tries to front as a demure, humble musical goddess? Sure. I could buy that.

But I still think she's got some really good songs, which is more than I can say for a lot of artists today. Certainly those more prominent on the radio.

I couldn't give a shit about anything she has to say. She's horrendously dull, her songs are boring as shit, she preaches this whole strong woman crap whilst stealing other women's husbands, and to top it all off, her piano playing is god-awful.

Lady Gaga, for example, is a million times better pianist AND writes way better songs.

I love female R&B singers. But I've never liked a SINGLE alicia keys song. She bores the fuck out of me. The only person more boring than her is Leona Lewis.

I like Alicia, but she walked right into this one. She needs to quit yelling and straining, and putting on affectations when she sings.

I think her singles generally suck - usually utterly boring, middle-of-the-road R&B, but I adore many of her album cuts. I always say, I'll take her over her contemporary, mainstream R&B peers any day.

I think she overstrained her voice throughout the years (just like Mariah Carey) and it's changed. Definitely when she came out with Fallin', you can't fake singing like that. I am loving her new song that was written by Drake, but her whole vocal style and pitch is different. Again, like Mariah, it sounds like she's trying to conserve her voice already by changing her singing style.
