Identity

The first Todd album I ever owned was Nearly Human. His balladering is always thoughtful and sincere. Of course, he never fails to excite with his mastery of the guitar.

I'm going to cue up "Wizard..." again this afternoon.

Probably my favorite Todd song right now. The soulful melodies in that song are amazing.

He's always got at least one of these great Soul/Pop gems on almost every album.
If you haven't already heard Nearly Human, I think you'd dig it.

I love 'Nearly Human.'
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Odd.

I just picked up his Something/Anything cd yesterday. I dig the man.

I'd never really clicked with Rundgren before hearing this album. I like the Nazz, and a good deal of his production work, but never considered myself a fan of his stuff. But I started checking out AWATS on friends' recommendation last year, just before he played it in entirety in LA. And I got hooked in pretty quick. I like side 1 better than side 2 cuz, that's just the kind of guy I am. It's kind of Zappa-like but more charming & melodic, and sometimes really really funny. But by the time he gets to the more standard soul songs on side 2, I'm ready for the weirdness to be over. Sometimes I Don't Know What To Feel is probably my favorite, very emotional.

It's really one of the most well balanced albums I've heard - there's sentimental stuff, traditional stuff, weird/ avant stuff, they all mesh with each other and play well together. Just as something begins to feel tiresome, he takes it somewhere else.

Yeah count me as a fan. I haven't had similar results with any of his other albums yet but I'm keeping my ears open.

Oh, the live show was pretty phenomenal. Pianist Ralph Schuckett (who plays on the LP) came back for the CA shows and was remarkable.
