Childhood memories and pop music

This topic is based on another thread about the Chicago song, "If You Leave Me Now". What songs bring to mind your favorite childhood memories....They can be funny, sad, etc.

In 1973,I was scared to death of....a Stevie Wonder song! nuts

I was four years old and I was afraid of the song "Livin For The City".I don't know why.....maybe it's the the synthesizers that scared me for some reason, lol. So I'm with my dad one day and this song came on the radio.I called it "The Spooky Song" and my dad started laughing....lol...whenever it came on the radio,he'd say to me "The Spooky Song" is on!

Cool thread!! biggrin

My Mum use to sing the theme tune to the Pink Panther films to me to scare the hell out of me as a kid!! I hated it!!

Also, the Madonna Erotica album came out when I was 10...it was the album that got me hooked on her. I use to walk round the house singing the words to "Where Life Begins"...but it wasn't until I was 16 that I realised that the song was about oral sex. How embarassing!!!

You know. That is my favorite song, by Stevie, I guess it was due to the subject matter being so real. Whenever I hear it I remember that scene in "Jungle Fever" of the "Taj Mahal"....that vision made the words to that song even more powerful.

Don't feel bad....I did the same thing with Cyndi Lauper's "She Boop".

In the summer of 1978,the disco fever got a hold on me lol

We went to a family friend's house. It was summertime and they had some kind of event. Can't remember what it was....a BBQ,a B-day party? Anyway,at one point, the host started playing a bunch of records and everybody got up and started dancing. She played songs like Heatwave's "The Groove Line",Evelyn Champagne King's "Shame",etc. In those days,I was a shy little kid so I sat on the couch. They tried to pull me to the "dancefloor" (which was actually the family room) but I didn't have the nerve to join them confused

Lo and behold, the next morning,I woke up feeling all energized.I felt like I missed out on a fun "disco moment" and I was determined to become a part of the whole disco movement, even though I was only 9 years old, lol.

I took a bath, slicked my hair back with some Afro Sheen hair grease, turned on the radio and got up and danced to every uptempo song! I was trying to duplicate the dance moves that I saw the day before.I even got a piece of paper and jotted down a bunch of 45 singles I was gonna buy when I got my allowance. In my mind,I was gonna become a "Disco King".

In 1978,I was going around singing "push, push in the bush".I thought they were talking about a new dance! LOL.My older sister heard me and asked "Do you know what they're really singing about??" lol

I laugh my ass off, whenever I hear Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust". When I was about twelve, I had surgery on my legs that summer. The weekend that I was released from the hospital, was very hot and my dad took me and my brother outside for some air. My brother had his boom box playing a mixed tape that we had made from the radio. While outside, one of my friends wanted me to watch his dog, "Smokey", while he went to the store. All of the sudden, another dog runs past "Smokey" and he takes off with me in tow in the wheelchair. Smokey's chases the dog two blocks while people are screaming at me to let go of the leash. Stupid me did not want to explain to my friend, why I let it go, so I held on; for dear life. All of the sudden the dog decides to jump this fence and "Smokey" decides that he wants to jump it too. As he leaps up in the air my wheelchair tips over, with both my legs in the upright position....and me holding on to an empty leash. As I opened my eyes, I see my little brother laughing while Freddie Mercury sings, "Another one bites the dust...hey". To this day every time my brother and I hear this song, we laugh our asses off...
