Before D-Train : The Strangers - 'It's Too Late' / 'Step Out of My Dream'

...

My title says 'Before', but at the same time that D-Train were picking up steam, co-collaborator and keyboardist Hubert Eaves III put out the 'Strangers' project (1983), featuring most of the musicians from D-Train, except for James Williams:

Hubert Eaves III (keyboards), Edward Moore (guitar); Kevin Grady, Scott Yahney (keyboards); Brenda White King (vocals), Howard King, James "Thunderbird" Davis (vocals); Curtis King, Lisa Fischer (background vocals).

Great post and project ! Some of those musicians recorded in the same year on Mtume's "Juicy Fruit"-album.

I've spinned these album-tracks a lot :

One year later, some session-cats on the Strangers album also recorded for the Network-project, a production with that specific 80's NYC-groove sound.
BB&Q-guitarist Kevin Robinson was one of the founders for this concept-group :

Another spinoff (and maybe the most successful of all) is Lisa Fischer's career.

Early on as Xēna...

...On The Upside

With...

...The Rolling Stones (she's good but Merry Clayton rules this tune)

With The Queen of R&R...

...Tina Turner

Out front...

...How Can I Ease The Pain (with Bobby Caldwell, Brenda Russell & Phil Perry as her bg vocalists)

She tied Patti Labelle with the above tune for...

...Best R&B Vocal Performance - Female (1992)

Duet with...

...Luther Vandross

Music for adventurous listeners

You're welcome ! I actually found a snaphot on Kevin Robinson's MySpace, which i think might've been photographed during those Network-sessions :

That's keyboardplayer Kenni Hairston on the left, and drummer Howard King next to him chillin'.

Kenni also recorded for Slave's albums "Bad Enuff" & "New Plateau", on the "Animal"-album by the Bar-Kays, and a bunch of productions by other artists.
He appears in a few Cameo-videos ( Word Up + Back & Forth ) as that long-haired dude with sunglasses on and wearing a portable synth.

Ah, i see lol. Liner-notes is the key cool. Thanks also for the ever-growing database of discogs clapping ,
which creates many connections to other productions on which artists/producers/studio-techs/etc... appear.
