Update on Teena Marie

As you know,Teena has signed with Cash Money Records and her new CD 'Black Reign' is due this spring. The album contains a duet with Gerald LeVert called "A Rose By Any Other Name",and a remake of the Smokey Robinson classic "Ooh Baby Baby".Guest artists on the album include Rick James,Common and Bahamadia.

The first single is due at the end of March, and it will most likely be the Gerald LeVert duet "A Rose By Any Other Name".In this song,Teena asks "Are you strong enough to be my man?" to which Gerald replies "Girl,I'll run across the desert sand".Teena then says "That's my man".

Teena is also planning to tour with Rick James in late spring/early summer. She's back,y'all!!

Rick has 25 new songs all completed and ready to go.He's gonna release a new CD sometime this spring. He also wants to release a 'Crystal Ball'-type compilation that contains rarities and outtakes. It is set to include some tracks from the unreleased 1986 Mary Jane Girls album 'Conversation'.

Awhile back,Teena appeared on one of our local radios stations and they played a brand new song from her new CD.The song is a duet with another female singer (nobody famous or anything),and the song is called "I Love Him Too".It's one of those songs where they're both fighting over the same guy.

The song was cool, and I can't wait for the CD!

lol...yeah,there's ALOT going on in the Teena Marie camp. She's planning to make a MAJOR comeback this year, and it looks like Motown wants to be a part of the momentum. That's why they're finally re-mastering her back catalog.Did you ever get the re-master of 'It Must Be Magic'?

Yep! I had to get it via Amazon, but I did get it! Sounds wonderful, and I'm really diggin' that live Deja Vu track! The book also has the story of my fav track from this album, "Yes Indeed"...how her and Patrice Rushen were just laying it down in the studio. Great stuff!! Were you able to get it yet? But, just like this one, I have to get the re-mastered version of Rick James' Street Songs from the Net too (which should be coming this week). Best Buy and other places absolutely suck when it comes to having any of the stuff I want in stock!

Yes,I got the re-mastered 'It Must Be Magic' CD and it is GREAT.I was surprised when I read the liner notes and found out that Jill Jones (Teena's backup singer back then) is related to Berry Gordy (he's her uncle).

You're gonna LOVE the Rick James 'Street Songs' remaster!! It is now an expanded 2-CD set,the first CD contains the entire album, plus 4 extended versions of the first two singles. The second CD is a previously unreleased LIVE album recorded in the summer of 81,and Teena joins Rick for a few songs too. It's amazing!!

the Street Songs Disc two is a Must have Live Set makes me wonder why Motown didn't drop this one back in the day??

Yeah,I wonder why Motown didn't release that "Live" Rick James album back in '81.It was recorded in July 1981,so they could have put it out as 2-record set just in time for Christmas of that year. Then again, the 'Street Songs' album was still going strong at that point and I guess they didn't want to over-saturate the market.

But,it's nice that we FINALLY got it,all these years later.
