Bret Michaels 'Stabilized' After Brain Hemorrhage

Poison frontman was rushed to the hospital Thursday night and was said to be in critical condition.

By Larry Carroll

In the immediate hours following Bret Michaels' hospitalization for a brain hemorrhage, his fans have been poring over various websites looking for a hopeful update on the Poison frontman's health. Now, encouraging word has leaked that Michaels may be better off than initially feared.

TMZ is reporting that Michaels is "awake, in good spirits and talking" as of Friday evening (April 23). This information comes from Ambre Lake, the season-two winner of Michaels' "Rock of Love" reality show. TMZ reports that Lake has spoken with people close to Bret who say he's "stabilized and conscious."

Lake's status update on the 47-year-old hair-metal legend is said to coincide with another unidentified "Rock of Love" contestant who is in touch with the other members of Poison.

Michaels was rushed to the hospital late Thursday evening, where doctors discovered he had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, a rep for the singer confirmed to MTV News.

"After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause [of the hemorrhage]," the source told People. "[It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation."

The next 24 to 48 hours are considered critical for Michaels, and he will be closely monitored by the staff at the undisclosed hospital. Most recently, Michaels has been a contestant on NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice."

Poison was my first obsession as a child. I have everything they have recorded. I was fortunate to see them in concert a few years back.

This saddens me greatly. He was my first musical "hero". I hope he pulls through..

Dad: Hospitalized Bret Michaels Is "Doing Good"
Us Magazine - 1 hour, 28 minutes ago

Bret Michaels is recovering from his massive brain hemorrhage, his father says.

Wally Sychek tells RadarOnline.com he spoke to his son, 47, in the hospital Friday morning.

"He sounded upbeat and positive but they had him sedated," Sycheck said. "But he's doing good. He sounded like my son."

The former Poison frontman's rep told UsMagazine.com Saturday, "Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location. Further tests are being run and information will be updated in the coming days."

Sychek says doctors believe Michaels' hemorrhage -- and emergency appendectomy earlier this month -- are complications from his type 1 diabetes.

"We're all keeping our fingers crossed and saying our prayers," Sychek said. "He just needs to be quiet now and get rested."

Michaels' two daughters with ex-girlfriend Kristi Lynn Gibson and his tour manager are currently at his bedside in the hospital, Sychek added.

Michaels is still in contention to win Celebrity Apprentice. Said Donald Trump, "I am deeply saddened to hear about Bret Michaels and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time. He's a great competitor and champion and I hope he will be fine."

The rocker blogged on Fancast.com last week that he "could have died" from appendicitis.

"When you're not planning on having a body part ripped out of you, it can be a shock to the system," he wrote. "I've spoken to several doctors and they all seem to be impressed with the condition I have been able to keep myself in as a juvenile diabetic. But a lot of extra care needs to be taken to make sure my body heals correctly."

I had totally forgotten, but was just reminded that Brett's been hit in the head a few times, by stage props. Once at the Tony's last year, and I think even on another occasion. I bet that's had as much to do with his condition as all the other stuff.

Yes. I read somewhere that high blood pressure or an injury to the head (for those under 50) are two of the most common causes of a brain hemorrhage.

It's so strange to actually be old enough now where our music stars are dying. Besides the occasional accident or suicide, since the 80's-90's I'm not used to music folks having all these health issues and dropping dead like this. It really makes this mortality thing set in:-|
