I think Michael Jackson is overrated musically, and his prime was the start of pop music focusing more on image than the music itself. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Lee "Scratch" Perry is a better reggae artist than Bob Marley ever was.
Band of Gypsies is the most glorious thing Hendrix ever did. The Who were just a decent singles band. The Dark Side Of The Moon is pretentious drivel; Meddle, Atom Heart Mother and Gates of Dawn were all superior records. Creedence Clearwater Revival were better than The Beatles. For nearly 20 years U2 have consistently made better albums than 99% of other pop and rock groups/artists. Sade's boring wine bar music. Country music's awesome. Jeff Buckley's Grace is just an average album. Lou Reed's a self-absorbed obnoxious cunt who didn't deserve to play and record with John Cale. Tupac's most vitriolic rhymes are more poetic and intelligent than most reknowned 'socially conscious' rappers could come up with. Shannon Hoon was a genius.

^ I'd have claimed the involvement of Brian Eno as one mitigating factor but the sod has gone'n produced Coldplay so.....They've recorded flawless albums, their last 2 were patchy but like Prince they'll still be played and lauded a 100 years from now.

Yeah he makes no sense, omg, BUT MY COWORKERS JUST LOVE HIM!!! This is good music??? Really??? They laugh at me when I listen to Hall and Oates, Stevie Wonder, MJ, The Jacksons, Marvin Gaye, hell even 2pac and biggie etc. I could go on and on about him not making any sense, looking like an idiot (but I do hear he's a pretty good businessman), etc. Getting women pregnant, setting a good example for young kids who listen to his music... @ least 2pac and biggie made sense and they were rapping about something, along with the late great Guru...(may he rest in peace). I was gonna say that whole cash money click used to get on my last nerves always talking about wanting some woman to swallow their 'pride' always talking about some woman going down on them. Dont even get me started on T-Pain and Akon. Example of a lil wanye lyric: You see it's young Wayne Game is ashamed and they say he's a pain He is crazy deranged Put them blades on his thing Just like 80 to summer So, when the sun hit it look like Baby or something So, when I come through the ladies praise me or something Like, Weezy's the man If you be's where he be's then you leaves with a tan Cuz he's 500 Degreez I need a fan, whew Cool me off wipe me down Daddy is back in town With the back of my Caddy slanted down And the mack goes +black+ if you ask around Put some hash in that grass that you pass around Then I stash a pound by my ave with rounds I'm a gangsta until they put my casket down You can ask around And they tell you like me There ain't nobody like me It's Weezy baby [Edited 4/20/10 18:19pm] [Edited 4/20/10 18:21pm] I'm in the mood for love...simply because your near me.

Queensryche is the best metal band to come out of the 80's. Hell, 70's included too.
Pink Floyd had better singles than albums. Lil Wayne might be the most overrated artist of the last decade. Nine Inch Nails's best album is Year Zero. I still play pokemon. I play warcraft. And I'm awesome.

Michael Jackson made his best work in the 90s New Power Soul and Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic are better than anything Prince has made in the 00s Agree on the above mentioned. Mine: Tori Amos is a self-indulgent piece of milk toast. The Gold Experience was Prince's last great album. Jimi Hendrix didn't do all THAT much musically despite people call him a major influence. En Vogue was the best female vocal group of the past 20 years. Elvis Presley wasn't that exciting musically. It was 90% image, 10% talent. U2 over overtly self-important. The more they try to be "normal", the more pretentious they end up. KISS has NEVER done anything musically that is ever going to be worth remembering. They're writing songs that are uncatchy, boring, uninspired, and forgettable. ~ [Edited 4/19/10 11:56am] A lot of what you said is true but especially the bold part.

I tend to agree. I used to dismiss the Beatles a bit. I knew they changed a lot of people's lives musically and otherwise, but outside of a handful of popular singles, I never really paid them too much homage. Then last year I had a hankering to listen to them. After I look, I realized they only released like 9 or 10 studio albums. Everything else was just compilations. Pretty amazing if you think about it; how their influence and reference has lasted years after their last record. Not many people mention anyone's solo work - it's always the group. (That's not to dismiss any success of Wings, Ono Band, or anyone else.) If folks aren't that into The Beatles, I'd recommend listening to LOVE, which is the soundtrack to the Vegas show. It's basically a big ass mash up of Beatles songs. Drum tracks from one song might be under another, etc etc. It's the best group of Beatles songs to listen to. But also, take the time to go back and listen to their albums. Just one at a time. They might not be mesmerizing, but you can at least understand a bit about their blowing the US radio market out of the water when they landed here. Their later albums are much more layered, experimental, diverse, thick, and interesting. Listen in order of release though.
