According to popular opinion, Marvin "provoked" his father to shooting him. I don't fully believe that was the case at all. Marvin Sr. just could not express his love for his son.

Yeah thats how I feel.

Thing is, it wasn't out of the norm when Sr. didn't express his love for his son,,,,many black fathers back in the day didn't express their love for their children, knowing how rough it was back then, I'm guessing they didn't want their offspring to grow soft,,,of course it was a FALSE and very unhealthy assumption, but thats how they felt.

I don't think Sr. was evil, I just think he was troubled like(if not more than) his son.

Wasn't Marvin's father a cross dresser?

Lady Gaga only uses the "Bi-Sexual" image to grab the Gay audience.

Prince's music was good NOT great after Wendy & Lisa got fired from the Revolution.

Mary J Blige can't sing.

Usher's music is garbage. All of it.

If Janet wasn't Michael's sister...she's be another girl on Youtube tryin' to get a deal.

@ Timmy!

Nelly Fertado wasn't that good of a singer

The Clash didn't have that many good songs

Thriller (the song) is really stupid

Dmx used to walk the streets of Yonkers, asking my mom for money

Brian McKnight is the opposite of what he sings (wife beater)

Biggie could have ended up the same why as Big Pun...

Marlon (J5) was not a good singer

Pete Rock is better at producing than rapping

Slick Rick could have been big...

Sir Mix A Lot sucks!!!!

Muse suck ass !
pathetic overly bombastic Radiohead rip off band

Erykah Badu is a pretentious fake ass wannabe soul sister with an annoying nasally sounding voice
just the fact that she changed her name from Erica Abi Wright to that should be proof enough of her prententiousness

never saw her appeal at all

Mayte's Child of The Sun is a pretty decent album with some blinding tracks, the only real downer being The Most Beautiful Boy in The World.

The Queen is Dead is the only essential album Morrisey's had any involvement in.

Shakira's She Wolf is possibly the best pop song of the last 10 years.

The Strokes: Roon On Fire > Is This It

Punk ruined musicianship in rock.

Jay-Z is Satan's bitch.

Prince should've given Nothing Compares and Manic Monday to Vanity.

Motown is soul music for white people. *runs* lol

faint

I remember watching a Melvin Van Pebbles documentary where he criticized Motown for not being "socially vocal" esp in the late 60s when turmoil within the country was running rampant.

When they interviewed him later in some radio show(I think NPR), he said that Philly International Records did what Motown wouldn't do.

I strongly disagree with his statement though,,,,and yours lol

OK, if Melvin was so aware that Motown wasn't totally socially vocal, then, how do you explain:

"Cloud Nine"
"Living in Shame"
"Love Child"
"Runaway Child, Running Wild"

True, Motown was mostly about love music, but guess what so was most "black" music. lol nod

I think some think every Motown act went to Vegas or something. Vegas didn't work out for none of the groups, even the Supremes were out of place. Berry Gordy was trying to present his artists to places where they would've never been accepted at anyway. I put more blame on Berry's business sense than the music of Motown, which generated more to youngsters than adults.

Don't let the story of the Supremes fool you. lol

Oh yeah I got one unpopular opinion:

The Ray Charles film turned more people onto Jamie Foxx than Ray Charles especially since Jamie Foxx keeps raping Ray Charles' voice. rolleyes

Popular opinion is he resurrected Ray. Bullshit. The movie was a FAIL.

As much as I respect Melvin, he's no different than many/some of us who gave the side eye to black artists who went maistream.

If you thought that was wild though, you should hear what he have to say about some of the black filmmakers who came after him,,,,,dude drools acid(but to his credit he was on point on what he said about those filmmakers).

That movie was okay, but no one really cared too much about Ray, like you stated previously.

Baby Got Back was a dumbass song

Another Bad Creation speaks for itself. (They only had three decent songs).

Marques Houston was a better singer as a child than an adult

The Jungle Brothers were not that great

Camp-Lo's music sucks
