Marvin Gaye's 'Here,My Dear' album is a mess.

Smokey Robinson and The Miracles had better songs than the Temptations.

Michael Jackson's 'Bad' album has three great songs ("Man In The Mirror","Liberian Girl" and "Another Part Of Me") and a bunch of songs that are just alright.

"Miles Away" is one of the best songs that Madonna has ever done.

You too?

I've never liked Smokey Robinson singing, never.

I love Smokey although i know he has to take a cloth and rub some
Vick's under his neck after he performs because i know his throat

Yeah,I'm not too crazy about 'Here My Dear' boxed boxed

We had a thread about it recently and so I took it out and listened to it again (I have the 2-disc expanded edition). Many fans and critics insist that it's a masterpiece, but to me it sounds like a bunch of sub-par songs that are unfocused and sometimes 'boring' boxed It's a difficult album to get through.

I wish I could 'hear' what others hear when they play this album,ya know?

I think Here My Dear is a very good album. Is it his best? No
On a scale of 1 to 10 i'd give it a 7.

Regarding Smokey:

I always get into a playful "debate" with my mother. She worships The Temptations and thinks that they are the best. She gets mad when I say that I prefer Smokey and the Miracles, lol.

Well to defend Marvin, he even said that album was bizarre. I think deep down inside he was against the release of it (Motown had to force him to release it to honor his contract) so while it may be unpopular I can see how you would think the album was disjointed. I still think it was one of Marvin's finest works though. nod

Well... I'll give you this:

Trouble Man is a great soundtrack (it's never been seen as that outside the ORG).

Though I love Otis Redding, I think he's quite overrated as far as soul icons go. He only, sadly, had five brief years before dying, he never got a chance to be the greatest that some claim he is.

Unpopular I reckon but hey that's me.

But I still love his music.

Semi-off topic: My grandma couldn't stand Otis, she always called him that "fat man onstage". My mom was crazy about Otis but grandma couldn't stand him for some reason. lol

if Otis had lived,he would have been one of the greatest R&B singers EVER.Can you imagine what he could have done in the 70s? Marvin and Al Green would have had some serious competition!

True. That's why his death is so sad. sad

I only say overrated because he only got to experience five years of success.

But he would've gave Marvin and Al a run for their money. Man, each three of them would fight to the death! nod lol

Maxinquaye is better than Mezzanine.

The Clash were po-faced gits who made boring music.

When I Was Cruel is the greatest Elvis Costello album.

King Crimson > Pink Floyd

D'Angelo's Voodoo was a disappointment, the songs aren't as coherently formed as his debut and rely too much on a 'sensual vibe'; Method Man & Redman slaughter Left&Right with puerile rapping about 'dick riders' etc.

Phil Collins' solo career produced some decent stuff.

Queen should be written out of musical history in a longed-for action of aural philanthropy.

Tupac > Shakespeare > Dante > Tricky > Everyone else

Bad is just what it is - Bad.

Thriller is the most overrated album ever, its not even his best album.

Every MJ album after Thriller followed the same format.

As much as fans hate to admit it, The Dangerous album is basically Rhythm Nation Pt. 2

Alice in Chains > Nirvana

Billie Holiday is overrated and a terrible singer.

Kanye West is talented and a great artist.

Christina Aguilera screams, NOT sings.

About 95% of soul singers scream, NOT sing.

Maxwell has an annoying voice.

Robin Thicke doesn't have a good falsetto, way too forced.

Moloko > Róisín Murphy

Despite his fake thug persona and personal issues that seem to overshadow his work - R. Kelly made some of the best R&B music of the last 2 decades. All of his albums up to Double Flop (disbelief) are consistent albums.

Ciara's career is over. She should give it up and become a stripper in Atlanta.

Janet is underrated.

People give Jimmy & Terry way too much credit. rolleyes

Madonna is possibly the most overrated artist and entertainer in music history. I find dry paint far more entertaining.

Buckethead is underrated.

(It was ok)

Thriller is the most overrated album ever, its not even his best album.

(I agree with this, there's really only two songs on there worth listening to)

Every MJ album after Thriller followed the same format.

(Actually it's really after OTW, every MJ album followed the same format, regardless, he's still a cool dude cool )

As much as fans hate to admit it, The Dangerous album is basically Rhythm Nation Pt. 2

(I really doubt that, you really are the ultimate Janet stan. falloff )

Alice in Chains > Nirvana

(Okay, that I agree with it. nod )

Billie Holiday is overrated and a terrible singer.

(I think she's a good singer.)

Kanye West is talented and a great artist.

(I love Kanye as an artist, but as a person...he needs to chill the fuck out with his arrogance disbelief )

Christina Aguilera screams, NOT sings.

( brick lol )

About 95% of soul singers scream, NOT sing.

( hmph! how about 95% of today's singers scream)

Maxwell has an annoying voice.

( You suck man, spit )

Robin Thicke doesn't have a good falsetto, way too forced.

(He's a hit and miss)

Moloko > Róisín Murphy

(Never heard of them...)

Despite his fake thug persona and personal issues that seem to overshadow his work - R. Kelly made some of the best R&B music of the last 2 decades. All of his albums up to Double Flop (disbelief) are consistent albums.

(Uhhh...he was great in the 90s and early 00s, but that's it, after 2002, he kind of sucks, and the child molestation and sex tape sure as hell didn't help either.)

Ciara's career is over. She should give it up and become a stripper in Atlanta.

(Her career was over after her first album spit )

Janet is underrated.

(Compared to most artists, no, to MJ, yes!)

People give Jimmy & Terry way too much credit. rolleyes

(To some extent, I agree, especially when they never gave J Dilla credit for producing "Got Til It's Gone" )

Madonna is possibly the most overrated artist and entertainer in music history. I find dry paint far more entertaining.

(She's kind of annoying...)

Buckethead is underrated.

(Never heard of them...)

I'll take that as a compliment but you obviously haven't listened to both albums back to back. Dangerous is completely different from his other work. It sounds like RN1814.

and it didn't hurt his image either.
