Na son, you culd make the argument Rakim was peerless in the 80's, a case I doubt you can make for any other rap artist in history, but I think lyrically the genre has involved(thanks in large part in the R). I'm not saying they're greater emcees, or that they're more influential but I think Lupe fiaso & the GZA are the greatest lyricist rap has had with some of the most obscure metaphors ever put to paper.
