Perhaps Prince could learn something here...

LP ARCHIVES: OFFICIAL TOUR BOOTLEGS

We're emailing you because you previously purchased a Digital Souvenir Package at a Linkin Park show. Now, for the first time ever, we've decided to release "LP Archives: Official Tour Bootlegs" comprised of over 100 professional live concert recordings from Linkin Park tours 2007 – 2009. The LP Archives are now available for purchase at http://downloads.linkinpark.com.

"We originally decided that it would be cool to let our fans buy a recording of the show they just attended," says drummer Rob Bourdon. "Once we saw the positive response to that, we figured it would be even better to make all of the shows available to anyone who would like to download them. We wanted to make the highest quality recordings available to all of our fans."

The shows are $9.99 each, with a bundle deal to buy 5, and get the 6th FREE. As an added bonus, anyone who purchases at least 1 show will receive a free 1 month online trial membership to LP Underground, Linkin Park’s official fan club. Fans who purchase 5 or more shows will receive a free 1 year online LP Underground membership. LPU members have access to presale tickets to Linkin Park concerts, opportunities to attend meet & greets with members of the band, exclusive videos, contests, and more.

To purchase "LP Archives: Official Tour Bootlegs," visit http://downloads.linkinpark.com.

It's an excellent idea! Pearl Jam released a series of "bootleg" shows like this a few years ago. They'd put out the CD in a plain brown wrapper w/ the date and venue stamped on it. Fans could gather all the shows they wanted.

Prince could do this, and should do this, but he won't. He's too fucking controlling, worried about it being bootlegged out, and can't see how he'd make any money on it. Yet how hard is it to record a show, encode it to FLAC or whatever, put it on a website, and sell the fucking thing? His shit's already bootlegged, so what's the real issue? Bootlegging isn't the exception, it's the norm. Doesn't make it right, but it makes it reality. Prince once said he "understands the fan's need" for material like this. Yet after one lame attempt, he's all but ignored that in favor of preaching about fighting the man, and getting his due.

Bro, you're wearing silk suits with high heeled custom made boots. You GOT your due, and you're still getting it.

Release it, BOY!

Indeed. There were the old rumours of him recording every show to listen back to it so he could correct any issues in the next rehearsal.... so if they've been recorded for that, why not just put them on a CD, wrap 'em up and then sell 'em?

The people who would buy every show, are the ones who go to bootleggers anyway, so he'd make a killing, plus (almost) cut out the bootleg market.

But that makes business sense... ***sighs***

Because he's worried about copies of his sold work getting out ie: downloading legal stuff illegally. He'll never stop it though. He has to work WITH it at this point. Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, Rooney, Linkin Park and more have realized this. Yet the once-leading voice in industry freedom is now suddenly very quiet.

I wish I was a Linkin Park fan, because I'd be all over this. This is the only thing I'd really like Prince to do. Screw the uninspired albums, overpriced websites, perfumes, coffee table books, etc. Just give me some unedited concert recordings, please. I'd happily pay.
