And if anyone (especially Akon) wants to talk about people beatbiting synth sounds, how come Goldfrapp, Ladytron, and The Human League didn't get any respect they deserved?!?
THIS^ is the first synth track to go #1 on most pop singles charts worldwide. THIS^ band was always around during the 2000's trying to get mainstream pop success with their synth heavy tracks. THIS^ one right here was just 2 years BEFORE Gaga ever received mainstream pop success.

Knowing that was the case at the time, WTF is Akon talking about? And BTW, how come Akon isn't calling Ke$ha out for using the SAME synth programming as Gaga? You can add to that list this song by Cascada - a big hit in Europe last year, the sound of the synths and drum programming is very close to Lady GaGa's sound in "Just Dance": [Edited 4/16/10 17:22pm] Cascada (the band, NOT just the female vocalist!) already had a few synth-driven dance tracks that crossover to the pop charts in the UK BEFORE Gaga.

That's true, but those songs are all very similar sounding and are much more up-tempo than Lady GaGa's stuff. This is what I would perhaps call the "classic" Cascada sound, but "Evacuate The Dancefloor" has a slower tempo and the bassline and drum beat is not like the earlier, more typical Euro-dance stuff but closer to GaGa's sound, specifically "Just Dance". Admittedly, the band Cascada has said they wrote the song before "Just Dance" was released, but I suspect they changed the arrangement before releasing it in 2009. The rapper cameo is also not very GaGa-ish but that guy sounds like a Pitbull clone.

I'm gonna have to agree with Tony on this one. Yeah Gaga has made that sound popular but the sound was around for YEARS. And Human League was definitely one of the first to make it popular. I just posted another video of them too.

LOL He sounds like Kermit the Frog. Actually Kermit sounds a lot better than Akon. [Edited 4/15/10 12:20pm] true

And Kermit didn't need auto-tune.
Back then when people had the Kermit vibe with their voice at least they were jamming. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

I think its funny how some Gaga fans are attacking Akon even though he is commenting in favor of Gaga, as if to choose her associations. That's fanbotism for yo' aZz!

this thread cracks me up! i don't think that many people take to heart what Akon says. but i do like some of his songs.

Lady GaGa must be doing something right if everyone is expressing their views in public about her.

People were finding similarities between them, but how many people have locked into that heavy synth sound before and after Gaga? If anything, Gaga is the one copying other people and following trends.
Akon's a nobody and zero talent.

I feel insulted. No seriously I've always attacked Akon. Never liked him, starting to lose some interest in Ms. Gaga herself. So whatever.

But, you do see the humor in my observation, right? Its the same as wen Gaga did a duet with Beyoncé and people got up in arms about it as if it were beneath her to do so, when she herself is VERY, VERY pop.
