Type O Negative lead singer Peter Steele dead at 48 http://www.examiner.com/x...t-48-video
Type O Negative lead singer Peter Steele died at age 48 due to heart failure, according to several reports. Steele died Wednesday, but initial rumors started Monday, according to several reports. A friend of Steele’s, Fuse TV’s Juliya Chernetsky tweeted, “Peter Steele passed today. I loved my friend…our idol…my heart is with his band and family…” Steele’s family confirmed that Steel passed away, and Wikipedia reports the news. Peter Steele was born in 1962 as Peter Ratajczyk in Brooklyn, New York. Steele was the lead singer, bassist, and composer for rock band Type O Negative. Many of the Type O Negative songs were dark, with frequent themes of depression and death. Type O Negative’s album “Bloody Kisses” went platinum in 1993, and the last album “Dead Again” was released in 2007, according to Wikipedia. The first video below show’s clips of Steele playing the bass, and the second video shows his appearance on a VH1 show. Kevin Coburn from Salt Lake City said this about Steele: “His voice was really deep and the music is very Gothic like and dark. I enjoyed many of Type O Negative’s songs. Peter Steele will be missed.”

At the end of at least two shows I attended, the band engaged in toilet paper roll fights with the audience--long streams of tp flying all over the venue. Once one guy beaned Pete right in the head with a roll on stage. He immediately looked down at the guy and said "you should pitch for the Yankees". Pete.

The review I wrote for my last Type O Negative show on May 8th, 2007 at Irving Plaza:
May 8th: TYPE O NEGATIVE at Irving Plaza - I don't quite know what to make of this show. First of all, the band showed up late because according to Peter Steele, he had some bad pizza earlier and stopped the show 15 minutes into their set to go backstage and throw up. Secondly, the guys rocked loudly as always, but I don't remember Peter's singing to be so...lazy I guess is the word. I remember the last show at Irving Plaza a few years back was canceled because Peter had some kind of health scare. Was his slurred singing related to that at all? Honestly on some songs his vocals were practically unintelligible. In addition to Peter looking a little older and a little flabbier, another sign of time gone by was keyboardist Josh Silver having grown a long grey beard during the band's hiatus. They ended the night with one of their classic toilet paper roll fights with the audience with some members of the opening acts joining them onstage to make it more even. I didn't get hit once. Setlist: Magical Mystery Tour (The Beatles) We Hate Everyone Profits Of Doom (break) Anesthesia These Three Things Hey Pete Xero Tolerance Encore1: Love You To Death Christian Woman Encore2: It's Not Unusual (snippet) (Tom Jones) Black No.1 90 minutes.
