Not necessarily. Prince played those characters once or twice at most. Tyler Perry transforms into Madeo through makeup and costume and voice. Most of the time now the whole "alter Ego" shit is to make you seem "harder edged" and then the album comes out and you sound like the same shit head that you used to sound like.
Beyonce and Sasha Fierce are totally the same, and cannot be compared to someone like David Bowie doing Ziggy Stardust Mariah Carey and MIMI or Bianca same person, they even act just like Mariah acts no difference at all. Alter Ego and "hard edge" is nothing more than a selling tactic now, it used to be an extra creative outlet, now its a check.
