Usher's 'Raymond Vs Raymond' ... Top or flop?

Usher's 'Raymond Vs Raymond came out today... Him being one of my favorite R&B artists in the 2000s, I gave this album a chance though I think the last one, "Here I Stand" sucked ass... And once again, even though it's slightly better, compared to 'Here I Stand', I definitly think Ush has lost it.. the ONLY song I love on it is "Mars Vs Venus" (yhank you, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis)... th rest is just that same electro-R&B we are stuff in our ears everyday... And lyrically, I expected it to be quite mature since it's supposed to be about his divorce, etc... But blah. Still singing the same old shit from back in the day ... I'm really afraid the dud is losing his fan base..

My prediction is that the album MAY reach platinum, not more ... It may even stick at gold... (just look at the singles flops!!)... Everybody around me (fans included) does not really care about the new album, some didnt even know it came out!!

Have you listened to it? What do you think? Whats ar your predictions?
Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

He's such a shit artist. He was never really good but he was somewhat decent with Confessions. I guess its only right you fall off when your whole career was based off emulating someone else.

So true. I hate that too. This new album is worse than his debut (to me). He needs to reevaluate his career and music direction.

Funny. Last night I said "let me listen to this album" and the album is mediocre. I only like

1. Daddy's Home
2. OMG
3. Mars vs Venus
4. Pro Lover

I only played the album (all 40 songs from the album session) once. Maybe I need to listen a few more times.

Well maybe lol, but I really think his music fell off once he fired his Mother as his manager. She seemed to know what worked best for him, but ever since she's been gone, I noticed his music hasn't been as good as it was before and his album sales are down too.

LaFace/JLG Superstar Will Top Charts with 330-350k, Erykah Badu to Hit 110-120k

March 31, 2010

Usher proves you can’t have too many hits.

With three smash singles at Urban radio, “There Goes My Baby,” “Lil’ Freak” and “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home),” the LaFace/JLG R&B star’s Raymond v Raymond album will debut at #1 on next week’s HITS sales chart, sporting a total now pegged at 330-350k, which may even climb higher on anticipation of a busy Easter weekend at retail.

That’s based on one-day sales reports from those retailers who haven’t either joined the Tea Party or been cast in Sarah Palin’s Alaska reality series.

Usher scored a combined, weekly audience of 44.6 million at Urban radio for all three singles, along with more than 1.5 million downloads and ringtones even before the album's release yesterday.

Universal Motown’s Erykah Badu will be the next-highest newcomer, with 110-120k in sales for her new album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), fueled by the controversial “nude” video for the first single, “Window Seat.” The clip, inspired by Matt and Kim’s Times Square disrobing, “Lessons Learned,” takes place by the grassy knoll in her hometown Dallas’ Dealey Plaza at the site of the JFK assassination.

Arista Nashville’s Alan Jackson is back with Freight Train, on track for 60-70k in first-week sales.

Former Wu members Meth + Ghost + Rae return with Wu-Massacre for Def Jam/IDJ, which appears to be in the 40-40k range. The album features Method Man, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon teaming up for the first time since Wu-Tang Clan.

The market was up 7% vs. last week, down 11% vs. same week last year and still down 8% year to date. You may now return, like us, to contemplating how we ever lived without our BlackBerries.

Yeah... Sorry but I'm still skeptical. I still think it's gonna flop. Not like a bad-ass flop, but more 'to Usher's standards' if U know what I mean.... He may sell 350k or more this week (hardcore fans, like the one I once was...)... But I think the album will face a sever drop afterwards... Wanna bet? biggrin biggrin
Not that I'm wishing him Hell, but thats how I feel it...

"Daddy's Home" is not considered the "new" single. "OMG" is.

This is probably the first album in history that dropped 5 singles before the album dropped.

OMG
Daddy's Home
Papers
There Goes My Baby
Lil' Freak

All "singles" prior to the album release.

Haven't really liked any of his songs since

Here i Stand was the only good song that i
liked off his last album. I wouldn't expect
any better off his new one.

What does the hightlighted line mean? Did Usher bad mouth Republicans?

BTW, I was half interested in the album just based on the Jam and Lewis track. I listened to a bit of the first song. It's got a big drama Lady Gaga sort of vibe.

Just saw Usher perform on American Idol. If he were one of the contestants, he would have been voted off. The vocals were atrocious and the song was so silly.

it's what you get when a music reporter/commentator longs to a repspectable, ACTUAL reporter/commentator but isn't good enough to get out of the entertainment reporting ghetto, so peppers his articles with what he thinks are "clever," real-world jibs and jabs.

I hate that. I really do. Music sales analysis, fine. Comedy writing...swing and a miss! I can't stand Sarah Palin or the Tea Party, but the comment made no sense to me.
