Just been playing this album, actually got a little emotional listening to it.
I love every song. I think the pacing and sequencing of the album works beautifully as well. Whatever you may think of Billy Corgan, you can't deny this is a great album.

Melon collie to me is the best cause it is the most varied and has some of Billy's most personal song's
But besides that there debut Gish is my 2nd favorite very raw and powerful Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Siamese Dream is their "best" album overall, but Mellon Collie and Adore are right behind it IMO.
I just downloaded Machina II: The Friends And Enemies Of Modern Music a few weeks ago and have been listening to that. There are some very accessible tracks on that collection. Look it up online - it's a band-authorized free download. Maybe one day it will see a proper release but I doubt it. I previewed the Zeitgeist album . . . not sure about that one yet.

Zeitgeist is horribly mixed.. It has no emotions instead of live versions, which are much better - check out www.livePumpkins.net, there are plenty of audio bootlegs (for fans of Mellon Collie era: 1996-04-07 Dusseldorf soundboard bootleg is a must-have!).

Mellon Collie is a wretched album. It's so overblown and full of Corgan's ego, but i think the main problem i have with it is the production. I think it's the worst produced Pumpkins album along with Gish. Even worse than Zeitgeist which at least sounds like Smashing Pumpkins.

That's a great bootleg! I suspect Billy Corgan was aiming for an overblown saturated sound with Zeitgeist, similar to Queen II (one of his favorite albums ever), which was also produced by Roy Thomas Baker. Both albums have some really strong material (although I think Queen II is better) but the mix is too muddy and/or saturated.

I have that bootleg even on dvd as video You're probably right, that's the only clever reason why it sounds so bad. Tarantula is probably the only song which sounds good. Am I the only one who thinks "That's The Way My Love Is" sounds completely different than the other songs on that album? The volume is a little bit lower.
