I am a Jam fan, so I'm looking forward to some new music...anxious to see after all this time
if Jay will travel a different road or go down the same one.

Here's what we know about the new album:

On 24 August 2009, Derrick McKenzie was interviewed on playvybz.com and talked about the upcoming album. He stated that Jamiroquai is now signed with Universal Records (UK) and that they have recorded more than 40 new tracks. Also the new album will be recorded live and have a style similar to the first three albums with the use of strings and horns. He claims the album will have less of a "disco sound" and will be a lot more funky and soulful. The album is uninfluenced by major record labels and will bring forth a new direction for the band.

During the first week of February 2010, Jay Kay mentioned the upcoming album on Jamiroquai's Facebook site, saying, "Hi Everybody, just wanted to say how amazing it is to have so many Friends on Facebook, half a million I believe. Therefore it feels like the right time to let you know that we are alive and kicking and in the final stages of our 8th album. I really can't wait to get out there and play it for you live in the very near future. Sending you all lots of good luck and love, Jay."

During the first week of April 2010, Jay Kay announced on the Jamiroquai Facebook page that Jamiroquai would be supporting Stevie Wonder. "I am thrilled and excited to be supporting such a luminary as Stevie Wonder, can't wait to see you all there and get to play some stuff from the new album. Love Jay".

hmmm So,apparently they're going back to a sound similiar to what we heard on the first three albums. Not sure if I totally believe that,as we heard the same rumor in the months before 'Dynamite' was released. My guess is they will combine elements of their "early sound" with the disco/funk sounds of recent albums.I can't imagine that Jay would give up the disco sound and I wouldn't want him to.They're one of the few modern-day bands who are keeping that sound alive.

Thank you, I appreciate the info. I'd really love the sounds that they took
on their first albums; but honestly I had nothing against "Dynamite" either.
Seriously, I'd really, really like to see them reintroduce the didgeridoo
I love the disco sound, so I'd hate to see them give up on that, simply for
the reason you gave.

I guess all we can, (or all I can do), is wait for the new album and then decide.
Either way, I'll always love Jay's voice, as it's unique. I've never heard
another like his. It's sort of....what should I say.....intoxicating.

There's a shortage of bands that are playing that kind of music (70s styled disco and funk),so it's refreshing that Jamiroquai are keeping that sound alive. That's what I love about their music. All of the elements that made 70s dance music so appealing (funky basslines, strings, insanely catchy hooks, and a strong emphasis on the GROOVE) can be found in Jamiroquai's music. While many R&B acts are so concerned with adding hip-hop elements to their music,it's nice that Jamiroquai are more interested in 70s music styles.
