Jamiroquai Opening for Stevie Wonder's 60th Birthday Party

Jay left this this message on his facebook page:

"I am thrilled and excited to be supporting such a luminary as Stevie Wonder, can't wait to see you all there and get to play some stuff from the new album. Love Jay"

http://www.allgigs.co.uk/..._2010.html

Looks like the new album is geared up for 2010. cool 5 years is a long time.

Nope. Born May 13, 1950. nod

He was just 11 when he signed with Motown, 12 when "Fingertips" was recorded and 13 when it became a hit. He was still in his teen years when Where I'm Coming From came out (age 20, he didn't turn 21 until a month after its release). nod

If only Jamiroquai could come up with something even 1/100th as good as "Where I'm Coming From" (his best album, I reckon - some INCREDIBLE ballads on that).

The support bill for this gig is horrendous - some of the most anaemic crap masquerading as "soulful"...basically MOR. James Morrison has got a good voice (not that he'll have one in 10 years time with the poor vocal technique he has) but his material is so easy listening. And Corinne Bailey Rae...snoozeville.

Can't stand his weedy little voice and him. Have met him a few times, just an arrogant tosser. I did like the first album but every other album except "A Funk Odyssey" was a pale re-tread of it. At least AFO had some beefed-up French dance influenced production.

For the record, when Stuart Zender left, the band never sounded either convincing or funky. It's all a bit tepid and watered-down for my liking. Out of the whole Acid Jazz movement, at least Brand New Heavies had some decent songs and have always sounded convincing.

I looked at this thread earlier, and I'm still laughing about the "weedy little voice" comment lol

However, I am a Jam fan, so I'm looking forward to some new music...anxious to see after all this time
if Jay will travel a different road or go down the same one.

Oh, and Happy Birthday Stevie!!

You got it man. I can't wait. Maybe a song word or tribute for Michael as well, nothing is said but it will be a year since his passing then.

I have a real problem with his voice... and since I was down with the Acid Jazz from the beginning, I was digging D'Influence, Brand New Heavies, Young Disciples, etc.

Jamiroquai is a joke, comparatively.

That "trying 2 sound cool" dialect Jay uses drives me up a wall. Just can't stand it. Before I had heard him, someone told me he sounded like Stevie, and when I heard his singing, I nearly felt nauseous.

Stevie has outlived Michael, Marvin, & Rick. From this angle, I'm happy that Stevie has lived to be age 60.
