this is the most boring episode of unsung yet. what i got from it is she never seemed that interested in being an artist and then when she got older and the industry was changing she quit because she was affraid of failure.

I remember "Come on and Jump To the Beat" and "One Way Street", she was only 14 when she first came on the scene. She also opened for the Jacksons during the Triumph tour.

Shanice can sing circles around Stacy but that's another thread.
I don't get TV One here in Maine...can someone fill me in? What was Stacy's exact reason for leaving the business? How does she make a living for the past 20 years? Did she address her hair? What exactly WAS that on her head during the 80s?? "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

Well hell, it sounds like they didn't do a very good job with his episode. Years ago, I read a biography about him on one of these disco websites that said he was getting dick all up in the offices of the Fantasy Records studios. That site said he had turned those offices into damn near a gay party every day. Andy is a four letter word.

What exactly WAS that on her head during the 80s?? Stacy said she was tired of record label politics and the perils of what she thought show business offered (sex, drugs, etc.). She was someone who didn't wanna do what was trendy (i.e. what Madonna, Janet and Jody were doing at the time). Plus she felt forced into it. She's been making a living as a behind the scenes person, I think she and her husband owns a studio. And she's only singing gospel nowadays.

I just wasn't into pure disco. I liked the disco with a funk edge like KC and the Sunshine Band. I do remember one of Sylvester's last articles for Jet magazine where he talked about his lifestyle saying he never volunteered any information but never denied who he was. I remember him stating when he was young, his pastor did a number on him and instead of resisting he rather liked it. I can't knock Sylvester for growing up and realizing that he was gay but i think it's tragic for a pastor to take advantage of any young boy or girl regardless of their sexual orientation. It certainly can ruin a young kid. Sadly it has happened quite often. Don't laugh at my funk

I will check it at midnight. Excellent episode. That sucked how she got screwed out of her royalties for her last single with Johnny Gill. Good for her she stepped away from the game and didn't compromise her soul for the business. [Edited 4/12/10 22:28pm]

He didn't think much of that preacher for preaching one thing and doing another. He got to where he couldn't stand hypocrits. As for Sylvester himself not resisting and kinda liking it, I was a teenager when Michael Henderson made that "Slingshot" album cover and if he would have thrown that hairy dick my way, I wouldn't have kinda liked it, I would have loved it! I wished that a grown man would have given me the time of day because boys didn't turn me on at all. But no, grown men shouldn't go after anyone underage. Andy is a four letter word.

Sylvester knew he was gay BEFORE that incident. Dude was dressing up and singing that flamboyantly as a kid but that was "acceptable" because that was cute for little boys to do that, when he got older, however, people thought it was a "problem". Sylvester remained the way he was up until he died. He's great.

Sylvester remained the way he was up until he died. He's great. On his live album, he remade "Lover Man (Where Can You Be)" and kept the lyrics the same without changing the gender. He also dedicated the very next song "Sharing Something Perfect Between Ourselves" to his lover in the audience. Later in his career, he had a song called "Menergy". He flaunted his sexuality and didn't give a damn who liked it or not. It wasn't until his last album when he started using "girl" in the lyrics in "Someone Like You" that he kinda sold out lyricwise about who he was singing about but I think that's because he was on a major label (Warner Bros.) on that last album. Andy is a four letter word.

Um, no. I think you may need to watch it again. In case you chose not to...she left the industry because they wanted her to be more like Whitney and Janet. She was her own person. Plus, Motown cheated her out of some money. Both reasons seem valid enough for me.
