Again, no particular order outside of Prince and Michael J being tied for #1
My first school girl crush was MJ, I even got the worst 'spankin' of my life in the fifth grade trying to sneak and take my MJ featured Right On magazine to school after my mom told me not to. Then in the sixth grade, I 'met' Prince. Lawd, have mercy!! Again, being disobedient and listening to Prince only because I was told by my parents not to. Classic Eve biting the proverbial apple. Ain't been right since Others: Luther Vandross Teddy Pendergrass Heatwave (Always and Forever and Boogie Nights) Earth, Wind, and Fire SOS Band Keith Sweat Sade Maxwell Teena Marie Zapp En Vogue (one of the very few groups that weren't just based on looks) BeBe and CeCe Winans (Heaven) The Clark Sisters Mahalia Jackson Cameo Anita Baker George Michael and Culture Club The Time and their female counterparts Klymaxx The whole Neo-Soul movement, esp. Jill Scott and D'Angelo Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Salt N Pepa, Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, NWA, X-clan, Kanye, TI, and Geto Boys. This list has the potential to be as long as an award's acceptance speech. I'm sorry if I forget anyone.

Led Zeppelin - Their artwork changed my life when i was a kid, i stared in wonder at their album sleeves. Same with Pink Floyd although i didn't find the music underneath as captivating. They could rock so hard but could be gentle the next minute and the diversity of their catalog still astounds me. Every album is different.
Johnny Cash - Made me understand faith, God and taking no shit at the same time! Prince - Even though not a funk artist i wouldn't have listened to Pfunk, Ohio Players and any other funk band if it wasn't for him. Also he introduced me to sex at an age way too young [Edited 4/23/10 14:02pm] [Edited 4/23/10 14:03pm] [Edited 4/23/10 14:04pm]

1. Michael Jackson - I will always love Mike. ALWAYS. The first artist I ever knew was him. When I was a baby, my Mom used to sing his songs and the Jackson 5 songs as lullabies to me. 2. Prince - He was unique and different. My adolescent years were the perfect time to discover him. LOLS! 3. Stevie - Man, how much I love Stevie. I don't even know how to explain that. heh heh... That's it. I like plenty of artists but to the extent where they changed my life, only this three has the honor so far. But then again, I'm still young, there are plenty of artists to discover. ~Time Spent Learning is a Time Never Wasted~

Michael Jackson-I became a fan just a few years ago, which means, I was in my 20s (and I still am). I'd always had respect for him as a person and artist, but never was a fan in a strict sense, cuz I had only Dangerous album.
As a teenager, I didn't think I would be influenced by artists this much as I grow older. But I was wrong. His passing also changed my life. The moment I saw the question of this thread, I knew I would name someone who means a whole lot more than their brilliant music. It's gotta be someone whose presence has a deep impact on the way my mind and soul works and he is that artist. Miss him... [Edited 4/24/10 4:09am]

Jimi Hendrix-An iconoclast if there ever was one. Indirectly inspires my attitude towards many things.
Prince-Growing up, he just not only marched to the beat of his own drummer, but played the drums, guitar, danced, composed, and produced too. From 1980-1988, his music was like a magic carpet ride and allowed me as a kid(later as as adult) to see genius at work. I always have admired his confidence in whatever it is he is doing. Michael Jackson-My childhood hero who's shyness mirrors my shyness. His love for his fans in the face of alot of crap he was going through made me realize that there is such a thing as unconditional love/respect between people, regardless of race/gender. David Bowie-Very similar to Prince for me. Always admired his risk taking and his music is damn near perfect. George Harrison-This man for me was the most underappreciated of the Fab Four. SPiritually, I love how his passion for the meaning of life and connection to a higher calling resonanted in his work. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."
