So I'll go with REM. I see what you're saying about The Cure, and it's definitely true that Robert Smith's vision has always driven the band. But there were core members present in the first 3 albums of the decade, and the last 3. And i definitely think the other members contributed greatly. The drums on Fascination Street, for instance. I think of each incarnation as a real group effort (apart from the Japanese Whispers/The Top era, which was essentially just Robert). * * *
