bulletproof revisited

lady miss kier is a talent that i feel has been more of an underground performance artist shoved into the pantsuit wearing disco singer stereotype. with no album of original material since deee-lite's dance classic "dewdrops in the garden" (check the user reviews on amazon), she pops up on indie label tunes every few years always pushing the envelope and just having herself a time with it. since bootsy was all over "world clique", there has been a connection with those p-funk cats. this cover of "bullet proof" is available to buy now on DFA, but note that kier herself comments on the youtube video saying that it was recorded in 2002. wink

amazon has an MP3 for sale that was released in january, 2010.

visit www.ladykier.com and check out her blog, it is something. she puts up MP# DJ mixes every once in a while full of funky stuff.

ray mang and lady kier - bulletproof (DFA records)

george clinton - bulletproof (Capitol records)

personally i was blown away by the accuracy in kier's recreation of the original. its a creeper that gets better every listen especially for a 7 minute dance track.

and george clinton's music video is ridiculously clever and strange. i would really love to hear that in HQ, but apparently its album "some of my best jokes are friends" is not available in any way shape or form besides used vinyl.

full disclosure: deee-lite fascinated the hell outta me as a kid. i am now 28 so i was like 10 when i got my "world clique" tape - the album is so fun and silly, if you have kids they may dig it too haha but their whole approach was so delicate and innovative especially for the early 90s. that voice has affected me and i credit them for basically hipping me to the funk.

thoughts?

Not available as a cd? That's rubbish, I have it myself and if you search in this thang called the internet, you're about to get amazed:

I like Clinton's Bulletproof and video too. It has a strong meaning that's valid even today.

thanks man! i searched for the song and got nothin! its still used though... a shame that these artists don't get a cut for their old shit when someone gets turned onto it 20 years later.

This album includes some of Clinton's best work as solo artist. I doubt very much you'll be able to find the album as new in any record store. I buy stuff from Amazon all the time and you can count on that if it says "like new" then it really means that. Second hand stores are also worth checking out.

The album is so rare that an unsealed copy goes for $30-40.
