When you really boil it down to just great songs, Gaga has WAY more than MIA.

MIA needs to write some better songs for criticizing anyone else for being "unoriginal" - only music snobs and hardcore fans really care about who's more original than who, anyway.

It almost happened for her and Lady Gaga came out with not only a hit song, but another and another and even her albums sold well, plus everything else.

She has something of a point, but the fact that the question wasn't really prompted shows that she is obsessed! Asking about "X Factor" or any of those shows has nothing to do with Gaga! It's sad because I think she's better than that.

I've always found the intrigue of Lady Gaga to be that she's so utterly bizarre and unconventional visually while making very mainstream, accessible pop music. She had a quote a while ago about her music being the sugar that washes down all the crazy, out-there themes of her artistry... basically that she's imparting pretty unconventional themes and images in a sugar-coated package of very top 40 songs. So basically MIA's comments are totally invalid because Gaga has never really tried to reinvent the wheel musically. She has always wanted to be a mainstream pop star. And she has a sense of humour about herself. It's mostly critics and fans who ascribe all the those accolades on her. She's always wanted to be an "It Girl", just taken to an extreme level. Her entire career thus far has had tongue firmly planted in cheek. The girl is smart -- she knows that songs about disco sticks, telephones and bluffin with her muffin are neither groundbreaking nor meaningful. Believe me, she is in on the joke. You all are just fools buyin into her hype.

well there wasn't really anything that revolutionary, musically, about what Bowie and Grace Jones and Madonna were doing. they were taking pop music and genres and overlaying it with shocking clothes, style, and performances.

in fact, most of the notorious, successful, and remembered performance artist-types used very basic, already-done things at the core of their art (the music) and dressed it up as a statement, a style or a movement.

that's actually kind of their brilliance. it's a transformational art that takes pop and transcends it.

The sounds they were creating were interesting, exciting, and memorable. Lady Gaga sounds just like everyone else. That's a problem for an artist whose claim to fame is how weird and different she supposedly is.
