What i found odd about that statement Whitney made is that she lump herself in the category of Prince, Michael and Madonna.. Now IMHO Prince was the only one wearing the crazy outfits.. Whitney was just rocking pretty dresses

Both of these 'artists' are relatively talented in comparison with their pop peers but by no means are they innovative or revolutionary. gaga makes pop songs, good ones. MIA makes some kind've rap/eloctronic/crap songs. There not sarah vaughn or somebody like this. Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

But seriously, I've heard people emulating Mariah (READ: Leona Lewis, Katherine McPhee, Jessica Simpson). But I don't think anyone can have success emulating Whitney. [Edited 4/8/10 20:10pm]

Sounds like sour grapes.
When you really boil it down to just great songs, Gaga has WAY more than MIA. MIA needs to write some better songs for criticizing anyone else for being "unoriginal" - only music snobs and hardcore fans really care about who's more original than who, anyway. |

I think M.I.A. would have become larger than Gaga if she had not become pregnant. That stagnated her career. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

musicjunky318 said: I've always found the intrigue of Lady Gaga to be that she's so utterly bizarre and unconventional visually while making very mainstream, accessible pop music. She had a quote a while ago about her music being the sugar that washes down all the crazy, out-there themes of her artistry... basically that she's imparting pretty unconventional themes and images in a sugar-coated package of very top 40 songs. So basically MIA's comments are totally invalid because Gaga has never really tried to reinvent the wheel musically. She has always wanted to be a mainstream pop star. And she has a sense of humour about herself. It's mostly critics and fans who ascribe all the those accolades on her. She's always wanted to be an "It Girl", just taken to an extreme level. Her entire career thus far has had tongue firmly planted in cheek. The girl is smart -- she knows that songs about disco sticks, telephones and bluffin with her muffin are neither groundbreaking nor meaningful. Believe me, she is in on the joke. You all are just fools buyin into her hype.

No. Have you actually looked or listened to a few of her interviews. She definately has the "Alicia Keys" complex, which means an artist makes standard top 40 bullshit but acts as if her music contains hidden messages from Jesus. She called the 'Telephone' video a "masterpiece" and "epic." She basically said that it's something that has never been done before. As a Michael Jackson stan, I found that very insulting. She said that her new album due out later this year would be "the anthem of this generation." The bitch is basically a white Kanye West. She takes herself very seriously and truly believes that she's innovative and different. M.I.A. hit the nail on the head completely, it would be one thing if the music matched the image. If she ushered in a musical style that was fresh and new a lot of her detractors would lay off, but she hasn't. She is definately on a high horse. [Edited 4/8/10 21:26pm] [Edited 4/8/10 22:31pm]

Layzie said: None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic.
She sounds more like me than I fucking do! first she slags off gaga and then she says gaga sounds more like her than she does and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Let's face it : The Gwens, the Gagas, the Fergies and the Ke$has have stolen M.I.A. style... That sing-songy rap style M.I.A. has introduced with her first album "Arular"... And don't forget M.I.A. is at sylist, painter and sculptor too, so she built her own style ans self-mythology... I'm not saying GaGa has stolen her 'visual' style (maybe she was influenced, but we all know Lady GoGo is trying to emulate Prince, MJ, Madonna, Bowie..), but musically, I'l pretty sure she did... Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.
