The thing is MIA has much more credibility than Gaga – her music appeals to a more diverse audience - you'll hear her music being played from hardcore hip hop to underground / indie clubs and she has one of the biggest followings on MySpace. Her style and music is more genuine then Gaga's so I highly think she feel's threatened by Lady Gaga.

Its amazing and a little disgusting how Lady Gaga is in this "can do no wrong" box.
Yeah, she's a proponent for gay rights. Good for her. That's no reason for her apologist fanbots to dismiss everyone's criticisms as jealousy or bitterness. She straight up RIPPED M.I.A. on a couple of tracks. Is M.I.A. a little bitter? Probably. Bitch is stealing her style; she has the right to be. So far we have India Aire and M.I.A. as jealous and resentful of Lady Gaga? Her look is outrageous but her music isn't. She's got a cool little vibe going but its not original. That's the honest truth. I think its kinda disingenuous how her fans are simply willing to dismiss truthful criticism as pure jealousy. Lady Gaga is not musically avant-garde; she's just slightly left of mainstream. Its not a diss against her; its the truth. The problem is that in this multimedia world we live in, people tend to listen more with their eyes than their ears. [Edited 4/8/10 15:57pm]

I agree with everything M.I.A said. But its amusing how some take Lady Gaga so seriously. Maybe, because she takes herself so seriously as well no she doesn't

Yeah, pretty much. But again, MIA isn't trying to remain mainstream as badly as Gaga is.

I've always found the intrigue of Lady Gaga to be that she's so utterly bizarre and unconventional visually while making very mainstream, accessible pop music. She had a quote a while ago about her music being the sugar that washes down all the crazy, out-there themes of her artistry... basically that she's imparting pretty unconventional themes and images in a sugar-coated package of very top 40 songs. So basically MIA's comments are totally invalid because Gaga has never really tried to reinvent the wheel musically. She has always wanted to be a mainstream pop star. And she has a sense of humour about herself. It's mostly critics and fans who ascribe all the those accolades on her. She's always wanted to be an "It Girl", just taken to an extreme level. Her entire career thus far has had tongue firmly planted in cheek. The girl is smart -- she knows that songs about disco sticks, telephones and bluffin with her muffin are neither groundbreaking nor meaningful. Believe me, she is in on the joke. You all are just fools buyin into her hype.
